Welcome to the Jo Richardson Community School website. JRCS, which opened in 2002, was the first new secondary school to be established in Barking and Dagenham for over 40 years.

Our motto “Success for All” underpins everything that we do at the school and puts the students’ achievements at the centre of our vision.  We have a commitment to the highest academic standards combined with a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities aimed at enhancing the opportunities offered to all our students.

In May 2013, OFSTED said that JRCS was a good school with outstanding leadership and management.  “The school offers an exceptionally caring and challenging education to enable all its students to ACHIEVE.”  At our subsequent one day inspection in November 2017, OFSTED confirmed that we remain a good school with outstanding features and that “You and your team have continued to improve the opportunities for pupils and raise their aspirations.”

We moved to Castle Green in September 2005 into purpose-built state of the art facilities. JRCS is a community school in the true sense of the word, benefiting from all the sports, social and educational facilities available on Castle Green. As headteacher of JRCS my aim is to ensure that every one of our students is fully equipped and experienced to face the challenges of their chosen pathway. I am hugely proud of what we have achieved since the school was founded in 2002. We have strong values, ambition, excellent outcomes and an inclusive ethos.

Vision
Our school motto is “Success For All”. We want every student to make the very best academic progress and to develop key character traits that will enable all students to be successful. At JRCS we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and happy learning environment for our students. We will support all students in the pursuit of and progress towards their chosen goals by providing the highest standard of teaching and pastoral support.

‘Success for All’ is underpinned by the ACHIEVE principal which is woven into all aspects of our work within the school.  ACHIEVE focuses upon 7 key qualities and values that the school community aspires to.

As well the seven key qualities of ACHIEVE, our school community focuses on five character traits that we believe are key for students to develop into successful and responsible young people ready for life in modern Britain.  The character traits support our ACHIEVE qualities and school values.

These ‘5Rs’ are:

  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Resourcefulness
  • Resilience
  • Reflection
  • Leadership: Ms. Lisa Keane (Headmistress)
  • Gender: Mixed (Co-education)
  • Grades or Year Groups: Year 7 to Year 13
