Teachers in Beijing can expect a salary anywhere between ¥215,400 to ¥273,046 per month based on the years of experience. Salaries in Beijing are also dependent on the type of institution you teach at. International schools will offer the highest salaries to teachers, while most schools will also offer certain benefits to teachers (housing, flights, transport, etc). 

Primary Education

The primary schools in Beijing are tuition-free. However, parents do pay a small fee each term for books, transportation, food and other expenses. Children start their pre-primary education at 3 years old, and start attending primary school at the age of 7. 

Primary education in Beijing tends to focus on Chinese, Mathematics, Physical Education and many more that are combined with practical experiences around the school grounds. Once students enter the third grade, they are introduced to a foreign language (often English). 

Secondary Education

Junior secondary education consists of the last three years of compulsory education, while senior secondary education is from grades 10 to 12. Once students have finished six years of primary education, they will continue with three years of middle school as this is compulsory. However, senior secondary education is not compulsory and students can choose to switch to a vocational high school.

Higher Education

There are over 70 universities and colleges in Beijing, making it the center of higher learning in China. As the government abolished tax-funded education, university applicants compete for scholarships based on their academic abilities. 

There is a large population of international students that are accepted into almost all universities in Beijing. Most international students will take on Chinese language programs that can last from a few weeks to a couple of years.
