Welcome to Kensington Primary School. Kensington Primary School will provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment in which British Values and respect for cultural diversity, celebration of achievement and commitment to shared values fosters the growth of confidence and self esteem in every child and their families.

The quality of learning will reflect the high value the school places on the achievement of all the pupils, reflecting diversity of race, equality of gender and awareness of individual need and an understanding of individual liberty. The quality of care provided throughout the school day will promote independence and self esteem in all pupils.

Careful planning of the curriculum and consistent assessment of pupil progress will ensure the provision of learning experiences which are appropriate to each child, building on present understanding in order to develop and extend skills and knowledge. Well informed transition between Key Stages will ensure progression and continuity of curriculum provision from the Foundation Stage to the end of Key Stage 2.

We ensure that curriculum provision and the use of resources supports the school’s stance on issues of equal opportunity in terms of race, gender and special educational need and ensuring tolerance and respect of different faiths which contributes to the personal development of all pupils.

The school will encourage the growth of such personal qualities as empathy, consideration for others and the ability to co-operate, promoting community cohesiveness, fostering the development of self discipline, understanding of the rule of law, democracy and the awareness that each person is responsible for their own actions.

As part of our Healthy School Award status, we are committed to promoting healthy lifestyles. Kensington Primary School aims to be as inclusive as possible, with the needs of pupils with Special Education Needs and Disabilities being met in a mainstream setting.

We are very pleased to announce that our school has achieved the Dyslexia Friendly Award. Both staff and pupils have worked incredibly hard to develop inclusive teaching and learning strategies.

When learning weekly spellings children tend to learn best when they combine their senses of sight and sound with movement. If a child has a problem reading fluently then paired reading may help. If you read the words in the book the same time as your child it can help to develop confidence. After a few pages allow your child to read independently. If they continue to make mistakes we continue to read with them. If they are able to read alone we allow them to carry on independently.

Here at Kensington Primary School we believe that literacy transforms lives and that better literacy creates more opportunities to succeed in life. We strive to encourage our pupils to embrace literacy and explore reading, writing, speaking and listening skills using a variety of teaching methods, across a range of different lessons.

We place a great emphasis on the importance of reading, which has been recognised by our gold status in the Liverpool Reading Quality Mark.

We have a wide variety of reading books linked with our core scheme, which is highly structured, introducing new words in a controlled way. Children also get the chance to read books of their own choice and from other schemes, thus giving breadth of coverage, widening interest and increasing independence. Once a teacher judges that a child has become an able reader, the child will have greater opportunities to choose their own books to read, encouraging reading for pleasure.

We have a school library and children can borrow books and take them home. Children are welcome to visit the library during enquiry time and also on a Wednesday night after school.

At Kensington Community Primary School we aim to provide the pupils with a mathematics curriculum which will produce individuals who are numerate, literate, creative, independent, inquisitive, enquiring and confident. We also aim to provide stimulating environments and experiences so that pupils can develop their mathematical skills to their full potential whilst at the same time developing a love of learning and an appreciation of the wonderful patterns underpinning the world of mathematics.
