King David Primary School is a Jewish day school. The Office of the Chief Rabbi is the school’s religious authority. We are committed to the practice of modern Orthodox Judaism and have a regard for Israel in Jewish Life. The school is a Voluntary Aided school for girls and boys in the age range 4 plus to 11 years. The school is operated in conjunction with the King David and Harold House Foundation.

The history of the school reflects the history of the Jewish Community in Liverpool and some children have family links which stretch back for over one hundred years. The original school was founded in 1841, and the Hebrew School in Hope Place opened in 1854; the Jewish ethos continues to be paramount in the school. The school moved to Beauclair Drive in the academic year 1964-5.

King David Primary School admits up to 60 pupils per year group. All admissions are in accordance with the Governors’ Admissions Policy. The children are taught in their own age groups and the classes are of mixed ability.

The King David and Harold House Foundation plays an active role in the governance of the school, electing the majority of the Governing Body. The Foundation also contributes to the staffing of the school and supports many of the school’s activities. Parents are asked to make an annual voluntary contribution to the King David and Harold House Foundation.

The school is fortunate in having the support of a very active PTA who greatly enhance the resources used in school. Throughout the school year they arrange both social and information evenings. Information regarding school and PTA activities is published in regular newsletters.

Within the Jewish ethos of this school we aim to provide a stimulating and enriching education, both secular and religious, for all children. We provide Jewish children with an enhanced knowledge and appreciation of their heritage, faith and doctrine and provide children of other faiths with a knowledge of world religions and cultures.

Children learn best when they feel valued, happy, secure and enjoy the success of achievement. Our positive approach to managing behavior helps children achieve emotional maturity. Children are encouraged to accept responsibility for their own actions, support others, become independent learners, to be able to show initiative and to solve problems.

Children learn in different ways. We strive to provide a stimulating educational environment which reflects the range of learning styles. Children may be taught in a whole class, as part of a smaller group or individually.

We recognize and value the close relationship between child-parent-teacher support staff. By working together we strive to help our children become confident and responsible young citizens.

Our curriculum is designed to follow the EYFS Statutory Framework and is further guided by a document called ‘Development Matters’ that sets out the learning, development and assessment requirements for all children until the end of their reception year. In reception we provide a variety of activities to support each child’s educational development across seven areas of learning.
