At King Henry VIII College we aim to provide a framework of identification, assessment, and provision that will enable students with any particular needs to develop their resilience and skills, to gain confidence in their abilities, and to overcome the challenges they face so that they can manage their learning independently.
King Henry VIII College is a relatively new school, but one with a history that stretches back more than 450 years. Our sister school, Christ College, Brecon in the U.K. was famously founded in 1541 by Henry VIII, whose name will grace this new school in Malaysia.
If ever there was a classical representation of “Malaysia Boleh”, then this is it – we can do it! King Henry VIII College will happily adopt this motto, too. A successful education means transferable skills and qualifications, of course; it is also about becoming a young person equipped to face the challenges presented by today’s world.
The education at King Henry VIII College mirrors that at Christ College, and the curriculum is closely based on the UK National Curriculum. The Christ College curriculum is carefully structured to provide a balance of subjects and to allow individuals to play to their academic strengths.
Our Vision At KH8, we aspire to nurture and develop respectful, responsible and resilient global citizens who lead positive and fulfilling lives.
Our Mission At KH8, we provide outstanding academic, pastoral and co-curricular structure and opportunities for our students to find their purpose and thrive as global citizens, prepared to take on life’s challenges.
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) includes our youngest students from Nursery and Reception (ages 3 – 5). Our purpose is to build a space for EYFS and to provide a safe and caring environment that caters to the learning needs of children within this age range. Trained EYFS teachers to guide students through age-appropriate activities that extend their learning in these developmental years. The curriculum in this area of the school closely follows the UK Early Years Foundation Stage.
Key Stage 1 includes our youngest students from Year 1 and 2 (age 5 – 7 years). These years help lay the crucial foundation for educational experiences and King Henry VIII College Primary provides a fund and a meaningful environment where students can explore different topics and interest. Students in Key Stage 2 from Year 3-6 (age 7-11 years) build upon the foundations laid out in their previous schooling with the aim of developing independence and taking ownership of their learning. Timely individualised assessments by specialised Key Stage 2 teachers ensures that the progress is in track and students are achieving at their full potential. Expanding on skills taught in Key Stage 1, topics of study fuel student’s interest in the world around them.
In Years 7 to 9 students will continue with a modified version of Key Stage 3 of the UK National Curriculum, studying a wide range of subjects in the following areas of learning. Students will build on what they have learnt in the Primary School, or be guided if they join the school during these years, to become self-assured students. They will be ready for their examinations, but also capable of thinking for themselves – adaptable learners, with skills that will see them into the Sixth Form and beyond. In the upper section of the Senior School (iGCSE Years 10 – 11) the core of the curriculum will be Cambridge Assessment International Education IGCSE’s, and students will sit these internationally-recognised examinations at the end of Year 11.
