A very warm welcome to Kings Avenue Primary School's website. It is a great privilege to join the Kings Avenue family as its Executive Headteacher at such a challenging yet exciting time. As a school we are highly committed to delivering the highest standard of education possible to ensure that every pupil realise their full potential.

We do this by delivering a relevant, engaging, and rigorous curriculum through a culture of high expectations and a consistent demand for excellence. We do not rest until good becomes better, and better becomes best. Through our work with Granton Primary school, we have designed our curriculum which fulfils, and in a lot of areas, exceeds, the depth and breadth of the National Curriculum.

Kings Avenue Primary School is fortunate to receive tremendous support from our parents and carers. The home- school partnership is one of exceptional importance to us as we firmly believe that this is the key to ensuring successful learning for your child.

Kings Avenue is truly an excellent school; our recent inspection commented on the significant improvements in teaching, learning, behaviour and attainment. ‘The quality of teaching has improved considerably since the previous inspection. As a result, pupils’ progress and attainment have risen across the school, particularly for disadvantaged pupils.

‘The newly appointed headteacher has made improving the quality of teaching, learning and assessment her main priority. She has an insightful knowledge of the school and provides strong direction with a clear vision. There has been a renewed focus on staff’s professional development, including through team teaching and personalised support for teachers. This is making a substantial difference to the quality of teaching and staff morale.’

‘Parents and carers speak positively about the changes since the arrival of the new headteacher and, more recently, the deputy headteacher. They value leaders’ opendoor policy and staff’s positive interactions with them. Parents recognise the improving opportunities that pupils receive through trips, workshops and in their learning.’

‘The quality of teaching has improved considerably since the previous inspection. As a result, pupils’ progress and attainment have risen across the school, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. Teachers demonstrate strong subject knowledge in English and mathematics. They now provide regular opportunities in mathematics for pupils to reason and discuss their strategies for solving mathematical problems.’

‘Teachers are positive role models. The school is a calm and orderly place. Pupils who we spoke to during the inspection told us that behaviour has improved considerably compared to last year. During the inspection, teachers demonstrated typically high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and attitudes. As a result, pupils work diligently and movement across the school is smooth.’

We nurture our children so they can grow and have good emotional well-being. We value their talents and strengths and offer to opportunities for them to develop in these areas.
