We are a leading independent prep school with 420 boys and girls aged 4 - 13. We are large enough to provide a full range of options and facilities, but small enough to give a 'family feel' where the teachers can get to know all of the children. The school enjoys an excellent academic reputation, with a pleasing number of leavers winning scholarships to senior schools in various disciplines.

Aims And Objectives

  • To provide a broad, balanced and well-rounded education for pupils;
  • To challenge pupils to develop their abilities, encouraging and promoting academic, musical and sporting excellence, as well as giving pupils opportunity to be involved in a variety of extra curricular activities;
  • To establish a firm foundation of skills, knowledge and understanding, upon which, pupils build at senior school.

Our schemes of work are influenced by  the National Curriculum, as well as the requirements of Common Entrance and various senior school entrance and scholarship assessments. While external examination success is an ultimate goal, we believe that this is not the only measure of success and throughout their lives at King’s, children are encouraged to develop a sense of achievement and enjoyment in all spheres of education.

Based on an historic foundation of musical excellence, King’s College School is a flexible and inclusive academic environment. We are a caring, family-based community in which all children are respected and valued. We prepare them, as individuals, to be confident in a future with exceptional possibilities.

King’s College School is a leading Preparatory and Choir School. The curriculum is constantly kept under review. The Heads of Departments annually update and review Departmental Policies as well as Programmes of Study and Schemes of Work. This is reviewed and monitored by the Deputy Head Academic. Underlying our curriculum is a principle of fulfilment and King’s is by reputation a happy and relaxed school with a strong work ethic.

Some key elements in the education provided at King’s are:

  • A sound grasp of numeracy and the application of Mathematics
  • A sound ability in literacy – an ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Enough familiarity with computers and other technology to retrieve and use information easily
  • A thorough grounding in literature and in the social sciences
  • A knowledge of the physical sciences and the world environment
  • A mastery of at least one modern foreign language and one ancient language
  • An appreciation of the cultural heritage of Britain and Europe
