KHDA Outstanding rated school achieves excellent results with its first-ever A-Level cohort.

The tight-knit group of 29 founding members of the school’s Sixth Form embodied Kings’ ‘Results the Right Way’ ethos with all of their Sixth Form students having made successful applications to universities across the globe, with their results ensuring they are able to take up these places. It is a great finale for a fantastic year group, the first-ever A-Level cohort, in the school’s history.

Commenting on the student’s achievements, Michael Bloy, Secondary Head Teacher, Kings’ School Al Barsha, said:
“We are a proudly inclusive school and are thrilled with the progress that all our students have made. As a school, we encourage our students to pursue their own pathway, choosing the subjects they are passionate about, rather than being a school that determines their A-Level choices based on GCSE results alone.”

The Principal and Director of Education, Rebecca Gray, was delighted with the performance of the students across a wide range of subjects:
“Kings’ Education is passionate about providing our students with a wide range of opportunities that embrace their individuality and encourage them to explore their hidden talents. The proof of the success of our approach is the number of unconditional offers for a broad range of courses, globally, received by our first cohort of A-Level students, as well as the exceptional results achieved.

Unconditional university places offered included:

  • Salma Abdelfattah, Computer Engineering
  • Hashim AbuHassan, Mechanical Engineering
  • Sara Al Hashimi, Music
  • Maria Al Kahaleh, Psychology
  • Charles Church, Sound Engineering
  • Alana Pike, Photography
  • Juan Salazar, Performing Arts
  • Kushi Shah, Communication Studies
  • Emma Steffers, Musical Theatre

“Whilst Kings’ School Al Barsha prides itself on being fully inclusive, we are still able to ensure that our most academic students achieve exceptional results allowing them to access some of the top universities.”

  • Rhali Attar achieved A*, A, A, A in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Photography and will be reading Mathematics at Warwick University
  • Millie McElroy achieved A*, A, A in Spanish, English Literature and History and will be reading Law at Durham University
  • Goncalo Lopez A, A, A, B in Biology, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry and will be reading Medicine at the Nova School, Portugal
  • Michael Rizk A*, A, A in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and will be reading Aeronautical Engineering at Southampton University
  • Jainisha Thadhani achieved an A, A, A in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology and will be reading Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland

Kings’ Education places the Arts highly within its curriculum, believing they are central to the personal development of all their students. This is evident in the results achieved. Juan Salazar, who has been offered a scholarship to read Performing Arts at Central School of Speech and Drama, London, said:

“It’s an absolutely amazing feeling to have completed my A-Levels and to be one of the first Kings’ School Al Barsha students to graduate Year 13. The preparation for the exams was extremely challenging as on top of revision I had to travel to the UK for university auditions, plus my parents moved back home to Colombia so weren’t here to support me in person.”

“Kings’ has played a huge role in getting me to this point as I was fortunate enough to receive a partial scholarship that enabled me to continue my A-Level studies and all my teachers have been incredibly supportive. I fell in love with drama back when I started here in Year 9 and always had a keen interest in film, so I started the school film club. Now, with clear skies ahead for my immediate future, I’m looking forward to new opportunities and hoping to eventually follow a career behind the camera,” he added.

Kings’ School Al Barsha is already looking to the future and will be broadening its Sixth Form curriculum for 2019/20 with the introduction of a Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC). “This is a great alternative to the pure academic route of A-Level and will allow us to further tailor the learning pathway for each and every student here,” said Bloy.

The BTEC provides a pathway to university or employment through a vocational program that combines in-depth learning and assignments with real-world work experience, two courses will be launched initially; Business and Sound Engineering, with Food Technology, set to follow in 2020/21.

“Kings’ School Al Barsha opened just under five years ago. If we can achieve such impressive outcomes in that short amount of time at A-Level, imagine what your child could achieve from age three,” added Rebecca Gray, Principal, Kings’ School Al Barsha. “Irrespective of whether children come to us for the whole journey or join us at a later stage, our curriculum is wholly child-centered and focuses on them as unique individuals. We take pride in being able to meet the needs of every individual and do ‘The Best by Every Child’.
