Tanglin looks to enrol students who will embrace the challenges, opportunities, comradeship and satisfaction that is part of life at Tanglin. The Admissions Team would love the opportunity to talk you through the application process and to give you a tour of the school's facilities.
Tanglin Trust School provides British-based schooling for students aged 3 to 18. Students wishing to enrol in the school must be proficient speakers of English and display the intellectual capacity to fully participate in and benefit from the school's curriculum. Tanglin does not provide boarding facilities therefore students must be living in Singapore with their immediate families.
Please note that waitlists exist for most year groups. We operate a rolling waitlist system so if children are unable to gain entry on the desired period of enrolment their applications will continue to stay on our waitlist until a place becomes available. We do offer places throughout the academic year, with the exception of exam year groups, Year 10 and Year 12, where entry is preferred at the beginning of the academic year and no later than the beginning of the second term of either Year 10 or Year 12 subject to Head of School approval. Parents are encouraged to apply early to secure a position on the waitlist and can contact the Admissions Team for estimated place availability by year group. Applicants will be placed on the waitlist from the date the completed online application and Enrolment Fee are received by admissions.
The school caters for students who have the following attributes
Tanglin does not provide any special programmes to teach students for whom English is an additional language and who are at an early stage of acquiring English. One parent is required to be fluent in English to ensure effective communication between school and home.
Students are required to reside with at least one parent. Tanglin will only consider students living with a legal guardian under exceptional circumstances, e.g. both parents are deceased.
Application for Nursery or Reception
The criteria for enrolment into Nursery or Reception is that all students must be capable of using English as their working language. Where children are bilingual, they must be able to demonstrate a good working capability in English. Tanglin reserves the right to give any potential student a test to assess their level of English competence. All children must be toilet trained and out of nappies before joining the school.
Application for Years 10
Students must start at the beginning of Year 10. On a case by case basis the school will consider a start date of term two (January). Entry after the start of term two is not accepted. The expectation is that most students will progress into the Sixth Form.
Application for The Sixth Form
When considering a student’s suitability for entry into the Sixth Form College, the following criteria will apply:
Successful applicants for a 3 A Level pathway should have an average B grade profile, based on performance in the Mock (I)GCSE examinations, with at least an (I)GCSE Grade B in the subjects to be pursued, unless otherwise specified. As a guide, an MYP grade of 5 or above is generally regarded as an equivalent. A student requesting to study 4 A Levels should have a Grade A profile at (I)GCSE, plus an excellent effort record across all subjects.
Diagnostic tests in A Level/IB HL subjects can be expected to ensure that students are confidently placed on the right course.
Singapore Citizens
Under the Singapore Compulsory Education Act, all resident Singapore Citizens between the ages of 6 and 15 are required to complete primary education in national schools unless exempted by the Ministry of Education (MOE). As the School is a Foreign System School and not a national school, an MOE waiver is a pre-requisite to the enrolment of a Singapore citizen in the School.
Parents are required to inform the school if their child is a Singapore Citizen prior to admission.
Parents must inform the School where an application for Singapore Citizenship is in process at the time an application is made, at any time during the admissions process, or at any time during the child's enrolment at the School.
In the event that Parents fail to notify the School that their child is a Singapore Citizen at any point during the admissions process or child’s enrolment, the School reserves the right to cancel the application and / or enrolment without refund of any fees paid.
Singaporeans holding dual nationality may not make application to the School based on their non-Singaporean citizenship.
If the school is prepared to offer a place to an applicant who holds Singapore Citizenship the applicant will only be able to take up their place at the School after the MOE has granted the exemption. The School will apply for the MOE exemption on behalf of the applicant before an offer of a place is issued.
The MOE exemption that is obtained is conditional upon the student’s continued enrolment in Tanglin Trust School. The school is required to inform the MOE immediately if the student withdraws.
