Elementary School

We are a Lasallian Catholic school in an international setting, and our entrance criteria reflect our aim to ensure a balanced intake for our school which acknowledges our ethos and heritage. We aim to enrol children who are able to fully participate in the life of the school, in accordance with our mission statement. We review all our applications against the criteria below to ensure that we maintain within our student enrolment the best possible balance of children whilst recognising the principles and values of our mission.

Entrance Criteria

Catholic Faith As a Lasallian school, we prioritise applications from Catholic families; your child's baptism certificate is required as part of the application process.
Siblings We prioritise sibling applications whilst considering all other entrance criteria. Please note that siblings need to be successful in our entrance assessment; each sibling is treated as an individual.
Academic Ability We are academically selective and all children must pass a period of observation and assessment (Early Years) or an entrance assessment. The entrance assessment features computerised testing in English Language, Mathematics and Developed IQ, along with an interview. We are not able to admit a wide spectrum of children with special educational needs as we do not have the resources to support them. If your child has received learning support in the past you may wish to contact us for more information.
Ability and Desire to Learn

We admit children who can make the most of the opportunities that we have on offer. Children must be able to work alongside other children in a cooperative manner, behaving well in class and around the school.

English Language

We teach in English and all children must be fully fluent in this language. This is assessed as part of our entrance assessment.

Returning Students and Board Recommendations

SJI has a strong tradition in Singapore and we acknowledge returning students and Board recommendations when considering applications.

Residency, Citizenship and Diversity

Children must be resident in Singapore with at least one parent and be in possession of an appropriate immigration pass. A child must hold a Dependant’s Pass, Permanent Resident Pass, or a Diplomatic Passport. We are unable to accept Student Pass holders and LTVP Pass holders. We are currently not accepting applications from Singapore Citizens or from holders of dual nationality where one of the nationalities is Singaporean. The school strives for a balance of diversity amongst all classes.

Children of Staff

Our teaching staff receive prioritised places for their children.

Exceptional Circumstances

Parents should advise if there are exceptional/extenuating circumstances in the family as these may be able to take these into account.

These criteria are subject to regular review and amendment. Applications will be managed in accordance with the most current admissions policy.

We admit children from the year they turn 5, into Prep 1, to the age of 12, into Grade 6. Children are taught in grades with children of the same age.

Admissions Process

The Admissions Process is as follows:

ONLINE APPLICATION

Online Application is submitted – this is only complete when all required documents are provided and the application fee is paid. Please note that we receive significantly more applications than places available and therefore there is no guarantee that an application will result in an offer of a place.

We will accept applications up to 2 years (24 months) in advance of the date of enrolment. We strongly advise early applications as we will close the Admissions Pool to new applicants of Grades where we have received a significant number of applications.

When the application has been approved, it is immediately placed in the Admissions Pool for the Grade and year that was indicated on the online application form. You will not be able to change the application date to another enrolment date in the future, however, you are able to bring the date forward to an earlier enrolment, subject to approval from the School.

As soon as a vacancy arrives, we will assess your child’s application against our Entrance Criteria (see the Terms & Conditions) and if they are suitable for the place, we will contact you for an assessment indicating when the enrolment will be for e.g. after Easter break or Term 2 etc. Please note that we are not able to admit a wide spectrum of learning needs (including English as a second language) as we have limited resources available. If your child has or is currently receiving learning support you may wish to contact us for more information.

If no vacancies are available for the Grade and year that you have applied for, your child's application is then automatically rolled over to the next Grade and year until the end of Term 1 Grade 6. The Admissions Team will contact you by February of Grade 6 as to your next options.

ADMISSIONS TEST AND INTERVIEW

The Admissions Office will contact parents to arrange a suitable time and date for the student to be assessed. Prep 1 to Grade 1 will undertake an observation assessment and Grade 2 to Grade 6 a computerised and written assessment and interview.

REVIEW

Our Admissions Review Committee (chaired by the Director of Advancement, Communication Admissions) conducts a holistic review of the applicants taking into account all the submitted documents, the observation/admissions test and interview results.

DECISION

The Admissions Review Committee makes one of the following decisions: a) To offer a definite place; b) To inform parents that the application is not successful on this occasion.

OFFER AND ACCEPTANCE OF A PLACE

Our Admissions Office will inform parents of the outcome of the Admissions process as soon as a decision is made. If the applicant is offered a place, parents will be asked to confirm acceptance within the designated time period (usually 2 weeks). Please note that we do not allow deferments to another Grade or term. If you do not take up the offer, we will then remove the applicant from the admissions pool. This does preclude you in applying again to SJI International for another Grade in the future.

After acceptance of a place is received by the School, a Student Contract will be sent to you via DocuSign to electronically sign your confirmation of the intended enrolment

On completion of the Student Contract, our Finance Department will invoice you for the one-time payment of the non-refundable Enrolment Fee and the Tuition and Development Fees. Once paid, these fees are non-refundable.

When a student is transferring from one international school to another, and we receive notification from the current school of outstanding financial obligations we will delay the student’s admission until a satisfactory arrangement to settle the account has been made.

High School Admission Overview

Admissions for the current academic year are accepted and welcomed throughout the year, contingent on space being available and students meeting the entry requirements for the School. There is no deadline for the submission of registration forms, however, if a course is oversubscribed, applications may be closed; see Table 2 below for a list of places available. In most year groups, providing that places are available, students are accepted throughout the school year. Parents are, however, advised to initiate the formal admission process at the earliest opportunity by contacting our Admissions Office.

Admissions for the academic year open on 16 March at 6:00 pm. Applications will only be accepted via the online application form which will go live at 6:00 pm on 16 March. Expected vacancies are detailed in Table 1.

Pathways for Entry into Grade 7

Entry Into Grade 7 Students commence High School Grade 7 in the year they turn 13. There are two pathways for entry, all of which require the student to have turned 12 before entry.
Entry Into Grade 6 There is an automatic transition from SJI International Elementary School Grade 6 into Grade 7 of SJI International High School.
Direct Entry: Grade 7

Eligibility: International students, Singaporean citizens and Student Pass Holders

Level: Grade 7 (Singapore Equivalent: Secondary 1)

Curriculum: Foundation IGCSE

Grade 7 is the first year of High School and the students undertake a 2-year Foundation International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) that is based on the British National Curriculum. Students follow a broad range of subjects taught by specialist teachers. Being exposed to a range of subjects enables students to make informed choices about their IGCSE options and ultimately what they will study in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.
