Admission Policy
Is the child suitable for our school? Do the parents understand the concept of Waldorf education and are they willing to cooperate with the school in providing the child with this Waldorf education?
These are the two most important factors that are considered in the assessment process in our application procedure.
Teachers will interview potential students and assess not only the academic ability of each student but also his/her all-round disposition including his/her physical and emotional condition and his/her personality. Therefore, in selecting students, our focus is more on how much we think the child can benefit from what we have to offer, rather than selecting children that display the most academic potential.
Waldorf education requires a certain degree of parental involvement and cooperation especially in providing a suitable home environment that nurtures the healthy growth and development of the child. In this connection, we will invite the prospective parents for conversations to explore if their expectations are in line with what the school can offer. These conversations will be considered by the Admission Committee and the future class teacher.
As we have limited places in each class, it is likely that we will have more suitable applicants than we have vacancies. We have already stated that suitability rather than academic potential is the determining factor. In general, children from schools with Waldorf initiatives in and around Hong Kong, for understandable reasons, are more likely to be suitable and this will be factored into our selection decisions.
Application Process
Please note the application process as follows:
Submission of Application
- Complete the application by answering all the questions and completing all the sections.
- Provision of personal information is voluntary, but without this information, we may not be able to process the application.
- Please upload a copy of your child’s most recent school/preschool report. Should you be asked to come for an interview, you will be required to bring along the original for verification.
- Please upload a copy of your child’s birth certificate and his HKID card. If he/she has a passport, please also upload a copy of the identification page of it. You will also be required to present these at the interview for verification.
- Please upload a copy of your child’s recent photo
Interview & Meeting
- When this application has been completed and submitted, an Acknowledgement of Receipt of Application will be sent out within 2 weeks.
- Eligible applicants will be invited to come to school for an interview. Only applicants who have been assessed to be eligible will be invited to an interview. Applicants who have been assessed to be ineligible will be informed of the reason why they are not eligible and the application process for these applicants will be termination. However, if the reason can be rectified, the application process can be continued.
- Eligible applicants will be required to pay anon-refundable Administration Fee Once receipt of this payment is confirmed an appointment for interview may be arranged.
- Acceptance is not guaranteed. The interview process includes meeting with the parents as well as meeting with the student applicant.
- Applicants who are applying to Grades 2 and above may be required to attend trial lessons at Forest House during a normal school day to assess his/her suitability for admission.
- Subsequent to interview and meeting, the application will be reviewed by the faculty meeting, and the needs of the class as a whole taken into account before considering whether or not to make a Conditional Offer. All application decisions are made by an Admission Committee. Such decisions, once approved by the Board of Trustees shall be final.
Acceptance & Admission
- A conditional offer will be made in writing if your child is accepted for admission.
- This offer shall only be valid for 2 weeks from the date of notification. (Parents with valid reasons may request an extension of this deadline)
- A refundable Acceptance Deposit of $25,000.00 is payable before the expiry of conditional offer.
