Apply in Three Easy Steps!
A completed application is required in order for us to consider a student's admission. In order to be offered admission, the student’s application is reviewed by a committee of members who take a holistic view of the information in the online application. ISB follows a Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited admissions process, designed to ensure that a range of learner profiles are admitted to the school, upholding our aim toward diversity, inclusion, and in the offering of student support services.
Step One: Complete the Application Form
Click the Apply button on the left or here to start the application form. If you've already submitted an inquiry form and have a profile in OpenApply, please log in and go to the checklist to start the Application Form for Admission. This form should take you between 15-20 minutes.
For a downloadable step-by-step guide, read through this page and our application guide to learn about how to successfully complete an application.
Step Two: Pay the Application Fee
The application fee may be paid directly online by credit card or wire transfer via the application portal. Applicants will not be considered for admissions or scheduled for an admissibility assessment until the application fee is paid.
Fees are payable in Thai Baht, net of any bank charges (transfer fees, credit card charges etc.) Payments can be made by online or in person:

Important: An email of the wire transfer/deposit slip referring to the children’s name is required.
Step Three: Complete the Checklist
Once you complete the application form, please visit the checklist accessible through your child's dashboard. We will need the following for a complete application and may request further documents based on your child's profile.
Please read below to identify which application stream you should use to apply and what timeline you should follow.
THAI Applicants
Applicants who hold a Thai passport should follow the fixed timeline below. Acceptances are sent prior to Songkran.
*All supporting documents in the checklist submitted and all assessments confirmed (if needed).
DUAL & EXPAT Applicants
Applicants families who have at least one parent holding a non-Thai passport may be considered an Expat or a Dual National. The applicant must also hold a non-Thai passport. These applicants follow a rolling admissions cycle and may be admitted at any time of year provided the student meets our academic requirements and there is seat availability.
ED VISA Applicants
Applicants moving to Thailand for education purposes that will need an ED Visa are considered Educational Visa applicants and should follow the fixed admissions timeline below. Please note that at least one parent will require a dependent visa (O) attached to the child's ED visa. For details about the student visa application process.
*All supporting documents in the checklist submitted and all assessments confirmed (if needed).
Admissions Priority and Application Stream
Siblings of current ISB students and Alumni may be given priority if the student meets our academic requirements and a seat is available in the appropriate grade level and program. Applicants who are not offered a seat due to lack of space in a grade or program will be placed in a wait pool until a space becomes available.
ISB accepts students that hold valid non-immigrant visa or a Thai passport. Please read below to identify which application stream you should use to apply:
Visa Requirements
All students must have a valid non-immigrant visa to attend ISB or hold a Thai passport. Tourist or Elite visas are not non-immigrant visas and students cannot attend schools in Thailand on such visas as per Thai law. If your family is arriving in Thailand for the purpose of a parent's work, the employer will sponsor your family's visas. If you are however moving to Thailand for educational opportunities for your child, you will require an Educational visa (ED) for your child and at least one parent will require a dependent visa (O) attached to the child's visa. View the steps for how to apply to ISB and an educational visa. Please note there are deadlines for applying to ISB for applicants who will need support with an ED visa.
English Language Requirements
Students who would require support and development with their English language proficiency may be considered for our EAL (English as an Additional Language) program. All EAL applicants must demonstrate that they are close to, at, or above grade level in all subjects and school reports must indicate average to above – average achievement in any language before testing appointments can be scheduled.
Elementary School
Students who are eligible to enroll in Pre-KG – Grade 5 do not need to meet minimum proficiency standards in English.
Middle and High School
Students entering grades 6-12 must demonstrate that they meet or exceed the English language standards established by ISB for their grade level before admission can be offered. For students who are identified as benefiting from this support, we will schedule an in-person/online assessment with your family.
Enrollment Age and Grade Level Placement Requirements
Students applying to Pre-K1, Pre-K2, and Kindergarten and Grade 1 must be 3/4/5/6 years old respectively on or before September 1st of the enrollment year. We do not make exceptions to the birthday cut-off date for either Pre-K1 or Pre-K2.
Exceptions to Kindergarten may be made under special circumstances and are subject to approval by the Elementary School Principal and the Admissions Committee. Should you be requesting an exception to Kindergarten, please apply for the applicant's age-appropriate grade level first and request our age-exception form for you to complete.
If you are unsure about which grade to apply for your child because your family is coming from a different school system, please view our Grade Level Equivalency Chart. If your child entered school earlier or later, we typically recommend your student continue in their current grade. We determine the proper placement of all new students through the thoughtful review of assessments, interviews and a review of all pertinent records to ensure that students are placed properly. Only in cases where we feel it benefits the student, would we allow a student to advance or repeat a grade level.
High School Requirements
For students admitted to Grades 10-12, and the second semester of Grade 9, an official, signed/sealed/stamped (unopened) transcript is required for submission during your first meeting with the counselor. Credits can neither be applied nor transferred if the official transcript is not available on or before your child's first day of school. High school grade classification will be based on number of years completed, number of credits earned, and time of year of arrival. View our credit requirements for graduation. Students who may be missing credits in certain areas will need to make up those credits over the course of the time they are at ISB.
Guardianship Requirement
Student must be in full-time residence with at least one parent or school-approved legal guardian while enrolled at ISB.
