Application Process

An Application Form should be completed and submitted, together with the RM500 Application Fee to the Admissions department. Applications are welcome throughout the year and there are no set date limit for entrance assessment tests. Further information is available by contacting the Admissions Department.

Information on the application form is used:

• To assist in processing the application as smoothly as possible;
• To provide the School with information to help inform its decision;
• To alert the School to any circumstance on which it may need to offer additional advice to the applicant;
• To allow the School to gather statistical data, which is used to track trends, inform the marketing strategy, and sending appropriate information to those on our database. Individual details are never released to any third party and all details of every application are kept entirely confidential. The data is used only within the Schools admissions system, and is not divulged to any third party outside the School, in accordance with current data protection legislation.

Admission Process

Application

Submit an Application Form together with the RM1,600 Application Fee and supporting documents to Admissions.

Entrance Assesment*

Book a placement test or trial class with the Admissions team to assess if the application year group and pace of learning are appropriate for your child and that they have the potential to be happy and thrive in the school.

Application into Nursery to Year 2

Book a 1-day trial class from 8.30am to 2.30pm according to the trial schedule. Children attend trial class in comfortable wear and bring along their water tumbler to keep hydrated. Breakfast and lunch during the trial day will be provided as complimentary.

Application into Year 3 to Year 10

Book a 2-hours placement test according to the test schedule. The placement test consists of computer-based entrance test in English and Mathematics, as well as an informal interview with the Head of Primary/ Secondary. These tests can be conducted Mondays to Saturdays weekly.

Assessment Outcomes**

Results will be released and sent via email within three (3) working days after the assesment. The Admissions team will give parents a call to verbally inform the outcome on the following day of assesment. There are 4 possible outcomes:

• An offer is made according to the application year group.
• An offer is made by placing the candidate in a lower year group / offering EAL supports / requiring shadow teacher based on the assesment results in the interests of school and the child.
• It is reported that the applicant is not yet ready for admission to the school and recommendations are made for action before retesting. No retest fee is required if the retest is within six (6) months. A retest after 6 months will require an additional fee of RM1,600.
• It is explained that the school's programme and curriculum are not appropriate for the applicant.

Acceptance of Offer

Parents are required to repond to offer letters within seven (7) days by completing the enrolment procedure.

Documents Required

• A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate.
• A copy of the applicant’s IC (foreigner to attach a copy of passport details page and visa page).
• A copy of each parent’s IC/Passport and visa.
• One recent passport-size coloured photograph of the applicant (not more than 6 months old).
• One recent passport-size coloured photograph of each parent (not more than 6 months old).
• One recent passport-size coloured photograph of each pick-up person (not more than 6 months old).
• One official copy of the applicant’s most recent full school report.

Note: Failure to produce these documents at admissions may render the acceptance to be null and void at a later date.

Admission Agreement

Straits International School hereby accepts this student for admission into the school. The Parents/Guardians named below agree to abide by the terms and conditions of this agreement and to observe the school policies.
