Thank you for your interest in East Barnet School. Whether you are applying through secondary school transfer, looking for a place in other year groups, or joining our Sixth Form, we are delighted that you feel EBS is the right school for you.

Below are all the details that you will need to apply for all different stages at EBS. We are happy to answer any queries you may have but please be aware that the London Borough of Barnet processes all of our admissions in Years 7 – 11.

Secondary School Transfer

Secondary school transfer is for all students that are currently in Year 6 and are looking to start in September in Year 7. These admissions are processed by the London Borough of Barnet.Places in the new Year 7 are open for application to all students that are currently in Year 6, and will be starting on the first day of term in September. Any differing applications will be classed as an in-year admission.

The process:

• All secondary school transfer applications MUST be made through the London Borough of Barnet.
• You can apply for up to six schools on your application, in order of preference. Even if you think you live too far away from the school, it is still worth listing EBS as a preference; if you don't, you definitely won't get a place!
• Applications usually close on 31st October of the year you are applying, but please check the closing date with the London Borough of Barnet. You will usually hear if your application has been successful at the beginning of March.
• If you are successful in securing a place for your child in Year 7, you will receive an information pack from the school, which includes all important information, and forms that will need to be filled in. It is very important that these forms are filled in accurately and returned to the school.
• EBS staff will visit the schools of successful students to learn more about them, and they will also be invited to an introduction day in the summer term. There will also be an evening for parents in the summer term, where we can provide any further information and answer any questions.

Appeals

If you have not been offered a place at EBS, the law entitles you to appeal against that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel. This panel is completely independent of the school and the Local Authority. All appeals will be heard online which but has the advantage that your appeal can be heard from your home or place of work.

Appeals Form
You should include any evidence or supporting material with your appeal form and you must give the grounds for your appeal at the time you lodge your appeal form. Your appeal form will not be accepted unless you state the grounds for your appeal. You may appeal for more than one school, but on different forms.

Any letters or reports that you wish the panel to see should be uploaded at this time. You are asked to bear in mind that if you send additional information later, the closing date is 5 working days before the STAGE 1 hearing. All appointed panels have agreed not to take any late letters or reports after the 5 working day deadline. This will be strictly enforced. For secondary transfer appeals, the hearing will take place at least TWO months after the refusal letter. This gives you plenty of time to get your evidence together if you act early and take account of school holidays.

Please note that the online form will ask you to upload two utility bills dated in the last three months. If you do not have access to a scanner, please take two photographs with a mobile phone and upload the photographic files. Any evidence or supporting material can be uploaded, but the online form will only accept, Word, PDF and JPEG documents.

In-Year Admissions

If you wish to apply for a place at EBS, this MUST be done through the London Borough of Barnet who co-ordinate all applications in the borough. All applications are duly considered in accordance with our published admission criteria. If we are unable to offer you a place, Barnet will inform you of our decision and that of any other school that you applied for. You will then be placed on the school’s waiting list (which is kept in the order of our published admissions criteria) and be given your statutory right to appeal for a place at the school if you so choose.

Appeals

Process

Sixth Form Admissions

Sixth Form applications are processed directly by the school. Many factors are taken into consideration when deciding whether or not an applicant is suitable for East Barnet School. If you are unsuccessful in securing a place, you have the option to appeal.
