Admissions Process

Welcome to the Mount House School Admissions Team Karen Harris, Fiona Coope and Karen Goodall.

We personally handle all applications at Mount House and our aim is to make the admissions process as simple as possible. The steps below show the process you will go through on your journey to Mount House.

Step 1: Visit Mount House
We encourage prospective parents and pupils to see our school during one of our small group Open Mornings, or attend a Virtual Open Morning. The Open Mornings on site are very restricted due to Health and Safety protocols, so we do encourage as many families as possible to attend our Virtual Opening Morning at this time.

Step 2: Register your application
To start the formal application for a place at Mount House School all families will need to complete an online registration form and pay a registration fee of £75. This entitles prospective pupils to take the relevant entrance assessments and prioritises spaces on Open events.

Step 3: Family Interview
You will receive an invitation for you and your son/daughter to come to Mount House for an interview with our Headmaster and or another senior member of staff. As a small School we ensure that our Head has completed the family interviews prior to the entrance assessment so that she knows all children who will attend that day.

Step 4: Entrance Assessments
Prospective Year 7 pupils will be invited to sit our Entrance Assessments in the January before they are due to start at Mount House. We assess potential pupils to determine their current academic level and how we can help them to fulfil their potential. There is a combination of tests and group work as well the opportunity to meet a range of staff and pupils and tour the School.

  • Our next Entrance Assessments for Year 7 entry will be held in January next year.
  • Our next Entrance Assessments for Year 9 entry will be held in January next year.

Entry into the Sixth Form is by interview and achievement at GCSE level. The minimum entry requirement is five passes at Grades 9 – 6, with a minimum of Grade 7 in the chosen A Level subjects. Candidates who have not taken GCSEs will be asked to sit an Assessment Test.

Step 5: Offer Of A Place
Following the Entrance Assessments, places are offered as soon as possible.

Make an Enquiry
Our Admissions Team warmly welcomes enquiries from prospective families. Please complete this form with your details and enquiry message and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

If you are interested in a place at Mount House School,

International Students

At Mount House (an independent day school for 11-18 year olds) we offer skilled teaching in a very special environment. Class sizes are small and our experienced teachers provide plenty of support to help students achieve high standards.

We equip students with academic and life skills that give them the best possible chance of success, whether at universities such as Oxford, Cambridge or LSE, specialist colleges like London School of Fashion or in any career path they choose.

We understand how important it is that your child feels happy and secure and will do everything we can to help students transfer to London/Hertfordshire and settle in well. We appreciate it may be a student’s first visit to the UK and want their experience to be happy and successful.

Mount House appreciates the diversity that students from overseas bring to the whole school. Our international students join in with every aspect of school life, follow a full curriculum and enjoy all our social events. We offer a UK curriculum, working towards GCSE & A Level examinations.

GCSE
Students begin GCSE study in Year 10 and are taught in small classes. They usually study seven subjects, including the core subjects of Maths, Science and English and choose others from our range of GCSE options

A Level/ Ib (international Baccalaureate)
In Year 12, (Sixth Form) our A Level courses start each September and January and we offer a wide range of subjects. In Year 12, students will study four subjects and their native language. In Year 13, students will keep their three strongest subjects along with their native language. Mount House is also an IB accredited school and can offer the International Baccalaureate programme. The IB programme leads to further/higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

Support with English Language
Students without English as their first language are offered specialist, small group EAL (English as an additional language) at an additional cost. EAL lessons help with written and spoken English. Our EAL lessons are designed to help integrate students in to school life and support them to access the curriculum.

International Applications/ Visas
Mount House School is able to sponsor a number of International (Non-British or Irish) Child-Student Visas. Child Students can apply for a Child Student Visa if they’re between 4 and 17 years old and they want to study at an independent school in the UK. This Child Student Visa has replaced the ‘Tier 4 (Child) student visa’. Our Admissions department directly manages the application and will help you through the process.

International Student Fees

Our school fees for international students are the same as our UK student school fees. However, we require a registration fee of £350 for all international applications which covers the application process in preparation for the CAS/Child-Student Visa application.

Conditions
Mount House School can only accept international students where there are certain child care arrangements in place. The two acceptable care arrangement categories that a Child-Student may fall under are:

  • Living with an accompanying parent applying for the Parent of a Child at School visa
  • Living with a UK-settled Close Relative (proof of relation will be required)

Once a Place Is Offered
Once the student has registered, sat our entrance exam and had a family interview (video interview accepted) with the Head, the school may issue an ‘unconditional offer’. The school asks for £1000 acceptance deposit which is returned to you when your child leaves Mount House School, and for all international applications, we require a further deposit which is equal to a minimum of one terms school fees. In addition to those deposits, the first term’s school fees are due prior to the student’s start date. Once we have received the deposits and the place has been accepted, our Admissions team will start the Child-Student Visa process.
