Nursery Admissions

The Holy Trinity Nursery is led by qualified teachers and follows the Government's "Early Years Foundation Stage" (EYFS) curriculum which consists of seven different areas of learning. We aim to deliver this to all the children by offering a wide variety of activities to encourage children to become independent learners that are ready for the school year ahead. Children with dates of birth between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 are due to start in September.

If there are places in the nursery after the end of the Autumn term the school may offer these to children who turned three during the Autumn term, in accordance with the criteria set out in our Admissions Policy. If you would like to be added to the waiting list for an early place please contact Samantha Joiner (SBM@holytrinity.merton.sch.uk). Please note that we will be unable to let you know whether we have a place for your child until late December. We can accommodate up to 26 children in the nursery at any one time. We offer a combination of both part time and full time places (all term time only):

  • Children with part time places will attend either in the mornings (from 8.30am to 11.30am Monday to Friday) or in the afternoons (12.30pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday).
  • Children with full time places will attend from 8.30pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday and must bring a nut-free healthy packed lunch.

Half of the places will be allocated to Open Place applicants and half to Foundation Place applicants, in keeping with our Admissions Policy for the wider school. Places will typically be made available as follows:

  • Up to 16 full time places (8 Open Places and 8 Foundation Places)
  • 10 or more morning places (5 Open Places and 5 Foundation Places)
  • 10 or more afternoon places (5 Open Places and 5 Foundation Places)

The school reserves the right to offer unused spaces to families requesting an alternative session, to maximise capacity in the nursery e.g. if we have unused full time places we may convert these to half day sessions. When applying parents may list their session preferences in priority order. We will use our Admissions Criteria to rank all applicants and work from the top of the list downwards to allocate all available places. This means that a family applying for a full day place may be offered a half day place if all of the full day places have been allocated by the time we reach their position in the ranked applicant list.

Reception Admissions

Holy Trinity is a two-form entry primary school, admitting 60 children to Reception each year. We follow the government's Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum framework. 30 of the 60 places are Open Places and these are open to all. Up to 30 of the 60 places per year are available to Foundation Place applicants who regularly attend Christian churches and are able to demonstrate that they meet our Foundation Place criteria. Please see our Admissions Policy ("Admissions Arrangements") at the bottom of the page for more information about how our places are allocated.

Families wishing to apply only for an Open Place do not need to compete any additional school-specific forms. You simply need to list us as one of your 6 choices on your on-line application form. Families wishing to apply for a Foundation place (in addition to the Open Place application) must complete a Holy Trinity Supplementary Form (sometimes informally referred to as the 'church reference form') and this is attached below. It must be returned to the school by the application deadline on 15th January 2024. Some churches pass completed forms directly to the school - please check your church's process with your minister. Late Supplementary Forms will be considered in September.

We are aware that many local churches were closed during the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning that families were prevented from consistently attending church over the two year period required. Our governors have therefore written an addendum to our Admissions Policy which states that: "In the event that the church has been closed for public worship and has not provided alternative premises for that worship during the last 2 years, the requirement for attendance will only apply to the period when the church or alternative premises have been available for public worship".

In Year Admissions

In-year vacancies for places outside the normal admissions period will be co-ordinated by the London Borough of Merton. Please contact them on 020 8274 4906 or email admissions@merton.gov.uk. We have 60 places in each year group, up to 30 of which are allocated to Foundation applicants (please see our Admissions Policy for more information). If you would like to apply for a Foundation Place please complete the form below and return it directly to school. If you have questions about life at Holy Trinity or you would like to arrange a tour, please contact our Headteacher Izzy Rickards (headteacher@holytrinity.merton.sch.uk / 020 8542 1591).
