For parents wishing to send their child into the Reception classes, they must apply to their Local Education Authority. We only receive direct applications for Nursery children.

Induction into Reception Classes

We aim to keep parents well informed, and ensure that children are happy to start school, through our induction programme. Induction meetings for parents are held at school and there is the opportunity for the class teacher to meet you and your child in your own home. The children have opportunities to meet with their new class teachers during the Summer Term and there is always close liaison between Nursery and Reception classes.

Nursery Admissions

Criteria

Nursery places are allocated directly by the school and are issued using the same criteria as that used by the Local Authority (LA) for school places.

In the event of more than 90 applications being received the following criteria will apply

• A looked after child (as defined in the Children Act 1989) or a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, residence, or a special guardianship order.
• Children or an immediate family member who suffers from a long term medical or psychological condition, which makes it necessary for them to attend Rabbsfarn Nursery. Applications must be supported by medical evidence from a GP or Hospital Consultant.
• Children of staff employed by Rabbsfarm Primary School.
• Children who have a sibling living in the same household who currently attend the full time school and will continue to do so on the date of admission. A sibling refers to a brother or sister, half brother or sister with one parent in common, adopted brother or sister.
• Children living nearest to the school. Distance will be measured in a straight line from the point set by Ordnance Survey at the child’s home address to Rabbsfarm Nursery.

When the above criteria has been applied, remaining places will be offered to children according to age, eldest first, until all places have been offered. Children who do not receive an offer of a place will remain on the waiting list and will be contacted if places become available. This will be on an age basis, eldest first.

How to Apply

Parents may express an interest in the nursery at any time by completing a Nursery Application Form. Parents may at this point request a preference in AM or PM sessions. Preferences are not guaranteed, but we will make every effort to accommodate your request. The school will allocate morning or afternoon preferences on a first come first served basis.
