We can't wait to meet you! There are two entry pathways into our school. For our Two Year Old and Nursery provision, you apply directly to us. For a place from Reception to Year 6, applications are made via the council. Follow the links below to the right path for you.

Regardless of how you are applying, please do call us to let us know. We can support you through every stage of your application. We know what an important choice school is for you and your child. Contact us and please let us help.

We run school tours for prospective parents from September to January each year. If you would like a tour of our school, please arrange this through the school office.

Reception to Year 6 Applications

We are passionate about supporting children and young people to have the best start in life. Islington’s Community of Schools work closely with one another to meet the diverse needs of children living or going to school in the borough. We work with Islington to operate a fair and transparent admissions process. We follow Islington's Determined Admission Arrangements for Community Schools. If you are looking for a place in Reception to Year 6, you need to apply through Islington Council's Admission's Site.

Please note that the school uses the Islington Community Primary School Admissions Policy and places are offered to

  • Siblings of children already at the school.
  • Applicants living nearest to the school. This is measured on a large-scale map of the area which is maintained by the Education Office. Measurements will be over the nearest available walking route and accessibility by private car or public transport will be disregarded.
  • As an exception to the general policy, priority may be given to applicants who can demonstrate that admission is necessary on the grounds of professionally-supported medical, social or special educational needs.
  • Applications for Reception school places are available from the School Admissions Department at Laycock Street, telephone number: 020 7527 5515/5516.
  • The school office will also distribute reception application packs to children already attending our nursery.
  • Casual admissions need to apply directly to the admissions department at Laycock Street, telephone number: 020 7527 5515/5516.
  • Please note that if you submit your application late for a Reception place, your application will not be considered until after all applications submitted on time have been processed. No consideration will be given for siblings or the distance you live from school. Late applications may well mean you do not get a place at Montem.

Two Year Old and Nursery Applications

Two Year Olds

At Montem we have a small and friendly Nursery room for two year olds. Children are eligible to start the term after their second birthday. If you live in Islington and are receiving benefits, or only working for minimal hours, then you may be entitled to a free, funded, 15 hour place. Please visit the Islington website for more information and details of how to apply for a funded place. If you qualify for a funded place, you will be issued with an 'eligibility code' which you will need to bring into school so that we can verify it with the local authority before we can process your application.

We offer 15 hours in a range of ways

  • Mornings (8.45-11.45 Mon-Fri)
  • Afternoons (12.30-3.20 Mon-Fri)
  • Two and a half day places (8.45-3.20 Monday and Tuesday and 8.45-11.45 on Wednesday, OR 12.30-3.20 on Wednesday and 8.45-3.20 on Thursday and Friday)

If you are not eligible for a funded place, or if you would like to top-up with additional hours, we also offer the option for paid places. Please see the Admissions Pack below for information on prices and details of how to apply for funded or paid places.

Three and Four Year Olds

All 3 and 4 year olds are eligible for 15 hours of nursery or childcare, and some working families are eligible for 30 hours. We offer both 15 and 30 hours places to children in the term after their third birthday.

15 hours nursery

If you are not eligible for 30 hours, or do not wish to apply, you do not need register online, and your child can attend nursery for 15 hours (half day). We offer 15 hours as morning and afternoon sessions:

  • Morning sessions: Start at 8:45 End at 11:45
  • Afternoon sessions: Start at 12:30 End at 3:20
  • If you are not eligible for 30 hours but would like your child to attend for more than 15 hours, you will be able to pay to top up.

30 hours nursery

To be eligible for 30 hours of nursery, both parents must be earning, or expect to earn, the equivalent of 16 hours at National Minimum or Living Wage, and up to a maximum of £100,000. To apply for 30 hours you need to have checked your eligibility online, after which you will be issued with an 11 digit ‘eligibility code’. You will need to bring this code into school so that we can verify it with the local authority before we can process your application. Please remember to check your eligibility online.
