We provide 30 FREE Funded Childcare Hours 30 hours of free funded childcare

Parents with children aged 3 and 4 years old can apply for a free Nursery entitlement of 30 hours per week. We have spaces in our Nursery. To qualify for the extra 15 hours of the free nursery, you must earn a minimum of the equivalent of 16 hours per week at the National Living or Minimum Wage (currently £120/week) and less than £100,000 a year.

This applies to both parents if a couple - so, a couple each earning £99,999 would still get the extended 30-hour allowance. But, if one parent doesn't work, your child would only get 15 free nursery hours. Go to the Government's Childcare Choices website to check your eligibility and apply. Speak to a staff member at the school office for more information, 020 7274 4847.

Tax-free childcare

Tax-Free Childcare is a new scheme which offers working families 20% support towards childcare costs.

It will replace the Childcare Voucher Scheme. The scheme will be open to many families in the UK and delivered by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

As well as full-time employees working for an employer, it will cover you if you are

  • Self-employed
  • Working part-time
  • On maternity, paternity or adoption leave
  • Starting your own business.

How does tax-free childcare work?

For every £8 you pay into a Childcare account, the government will pay £2. It will put in a maximum of £500 every three months for each child - or £1,000 if your child has a disability. This will operate through an online Childcare account provided by National Savings & Investments (NS&I) in partnership with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), which parents and government can pay money into.

You will pay your childcare costs into this account, and the Government will 'top-up' the account with their contribution. Any other person, a grandparent or family member, can also pay into the account. The money will then be paid directly from this one account to your childcare provider.

If your circumstances change or you no longer want to pay into the account, you’ll be able to withdraw the money you have built up. For any amount you withdraw, the government will withdraw the contribution it has made based on that amount.

The accounts will involve no fees and allow you to build up credit for use when you need it most, for example, during school holidays. If you wish to apply for a place in the Nursery at St John's, please apply directly to the school office for an application form.
