Admissions Information

Introduction

We are really delighted that you are considering joining our school and securing a place for your child. There are so many opportunities that we are sure you and they will enjoy, in and beyond the classroom.

We are incredibly proud of our school, our children and their achievements. The best way to find out more is to visit us, that way we can talk face to face and get a real feel for the place. It will really help guide and shape your decision making. A visit would also allow you to see learning in action and to speak to our children, who are the very best advocates of our school.

Please do contact the school office directly, and speak with Lauren Jones who will be delighted to arrange a time to visit us at a time when a member of staff can offer you a tour.

Admission Arrangements

The New North Academy Admissions Policy is in line with the London Borough of Islington and the pan-London arrangement. The Governing Body is responsible for the admission of pupils into The New North Academy and complies with the infant class size rules which require that each Reception (Foundation Stage 2), Year 1 or Year 2 class must have no more than 30 children with a qualified teacher. The admission numbers for The New North Academy take this into account.

Reception and Nursery Admissions

We are really delighted that you are considering joining our school to start your child’s learning journey. This is SUCH an exciting time, but also such a big decision to make, and we are keen to help you through this.

We are incredibly proud of our school as a whole but specifically our Early Years Foundation Stage. We have been working incredibly hard to move standards forwards since our last Ofsted inspection, and would actually quite like inspectors to return so that they can acknowledge and celebrate our progress and achievements too.

The Early Years curriculum is slightly different to that in Key Stages 1 and 2. Your child’s experience in Early Years is quite literally their foundation to the rest of the school and learning journey and so much care and attention is given to the approach we take.

Real focus is given to creating the best conditions for children to learn and be happy and the staff team embrace the EYFS curriculum whilst also drawing on the most up to date research and the best international models for learning in the Early Year. It’s an exciting place to be!

Staff focus on the following key areas - which we’re happy to talk through when you visit

  • Offering irresistible learning opportunities - that are motivating, authentic and first hand experiences
  • Fostering supportive and encouraging relationships - based on respect, acceptance and trust and also includes developing a very genuine partnership with families
  • Enabling learning environments - stimulating and accessible resources that encourages children to learn in and outside of their classroom
  • Expert interactions - that our skilled practitioners use in a skillful and timely way to help your child drive their own learning and make progress

Because our EY setting has grown in popularity, we have added some key visit dates to our calendar, and we’d really love to see you at any of these. Should it be difficult for you to make these special information events, you are of course welcome to contact us and arrange another time - we will offer you as much time as we are able outside of the planned times.
