Starting school for the first time

In Newham, children start Primary School (Reception) in the school year during which they have their fifth birthday. Entry is in September.

The London Borough of Newham is the Admission Authority for our school who organise all admissions centrally. Pupils are admitted to the school in line with the London Borough of Newham Admissions Policy. Application forms are available online or through contacting the council on 020 8430 2000.

The staff, governing body and pupils of Essex Primary School would welcome you applying for a place at our school. To do this you must follow the correct process for your child’s age as detailed below.

We are a school maintained by London Borough of Newham which means they are the admission authority for this school.

All applications for this school must be made through London Borough of Newham’s Pupil Services, not this school.

Reception admission for September entry

For all children inclusive, their parents/carers will need to apply for a reception class place in an infant or primary school for September entry.

  • National offer date for on time reception applicants 16 April

For children living outside Newham, whose family wants them to attend this school their application must be made through their home borough naming this school as a preference on their application.

In Year admissions into primary school (mid term and mid phase)

If a family arrives in Newham during the school year  and their child needs a school place they must complete an In Year form naming their preferred schools. https://www.newham.gov.uk/schools-education/year-admissions/1

School places are usually offered within 10 days.

The place offered may not be at the school the family prefers as that school may not have a suitable place available.

Year 7 Admission for September 

For all children born from inclusive, their parents/carers will need to apply for year 7 secondary school place for September , unless the child is on roll at an All Through school (Chobham Academy, Langdon Academy or School 21) as they will automatically move into year 7 unless they would prefer.

All year 7 applications for September must be made through the family’s home local authority.​

  • National offer date for on time year 7 applicants 1st March
