Enrolment at Holy Rood RC High School

Transfer arrangements from primary 7 are arranged by pupil placement at the City of Edinburgh Council. Pupil placement staff compile a list of new S1 pupils and also produce a waiting list, based on Council criteria. The school has no role in the compilation of these lists.

In November, the City will issue information booklets and letters to P7 pupils advising them of the catchment high school serving their home address and of their right to make a placing request. Primary schools will be notified of the catchment high schools for all their P7 pupils.

High schools will be advised of the number of P7 pupils within their catchment and the total number from each primary. Holy Rood RC High School will send the appropriate quantities of school handbooks to primary schools for distribution to their catchment pupils.

Non-Catchment Requests

If you do not live with the Holy Rood RC High School catchment area, you will be required to apply for a placing request.

Applications are processed initially through City of Edinburgh Council.

Placing requests are only considered after all catachment pupils have been allocated a place.

Once the school year has started in August, the waiting lists are transferred to Holy Rood RC High School and we can allocate any remaining places.

Find your catchment school

Catchment area maps

Every household in Edinburgh has a catchment area. The catchment area determines which schools you will be given a priority place. Going to a nearby school or nursery class or one which works with the school does not give you a priority place.

Find which schools are in your catchment area by using our interactive catchment map below.

Check what the catchment areas are for each school by downloading catchment maps below.

Your nearest school may not be your catchment school.

Most addresses have four catchment schools

  • non-denominational (ND) primary school
  • non-denominational secondary school
  • Roman Catholic (RC) primary school
  • Roman Catholic secondary school.

Changes to catchment areas

Several catchment areas changed in October 2023 as we are opening a new Maybury Primary School in August 2024. The school will initially be open to P1 children only.

The schools affected by these changes are

  • Corstorphine Primary School
  • Craigmount High School
  • Cramond Primary School
  • Hillwood Primary School
  • The Royal High School
