Edgbaston High School for Girls

  • Founded: 1876
  • Address: Westbourne Road Edgbaston - Birmingham, England (Map)
  • Tel: Show Number

Admissions Process

  • Entry into Edgbaston High School is by assessment. The main entry points are the start of Nursery, Prep School (Reception), Senior School (Year 7) and Sixth Form (Year 12), although as families may relocate in and out of the area for work reasons, we do have vacancies in other years.
  • Making a formal registration for your daughter will require you to set up a unique logon to our Admissions Portal. From our Admissions Portal you will be able to book open events, make applications (including scholarship applications), complete important forms, track your applications progress and communicate with us directly. We hope this will make your family's journey through our admissions process as simple and convenient as possible. Please make sure you make a note of the email address and password for future use.

Joining Nursery or Kindergarten

  • Some girls join Westbourne before Reception, in our Nursery or Kindergarten.
  • We accept girls from the age of 2½, once they are physically, emotionally and socially ready for our learning environment, away from home. Also, we need to know they will enjoy taking part in the lessons and activities.
  • If you’d like to apply for your daughter to join at this stage, you’ll need to register, as explained below. We’ll then invite you and your daughter to an informal pre-admission visit, which takes up to an hour. During this time your child will spend time with our Senior Teacher and visit her prospective year group whilst you will have time to have your questions answered. If everyone’s happy, we’ll discuss an appropriate starting date with you.
  • Please note – if you’re considering EHS for your daughter, it’s a good idea to talk to us as soon as possible, as we have a waiting list for places. We accept early registrations for our Nursery from birth.

Joining Reception

  • Your child could join us in our Preparatory School, including Westbourne, in any year group, subject to the availability of places.
  • If you’d like to apply for your daughter to join at any stage, before the assessment you’ll need to complete a registration form.

Joining at Other Points

  • Girls can apply to join us elsewhere in our Senior School, as long as we have places available. Your daughter could join us in any year group – apart from Year 11, and if she joins Year 10, we would prefer her to do this by the half term of the Autumn Term.
  • She would need to take an entry test, appropriate to her age, in English, Maths and French (or her main modern foreign language). She would also come to an interview with the Headmistress, and we would ask her current school for a confidential report on her achievement and progress.
  • Before applying, you’ll need to complete a registration form via the Admissions Portal.

Joining Sixth Form

Choosing a Sixth Form is an important decision, as you begin the last stage of your school career. In this section, we aim to give you all the information you’ll need to apply for a place at EHS.

When to Apply

  • Admissions for September entry to our Sixth Form are now open. We can consider applications at any time during the academic year - but if you’re applying for a Sixth Form Scholarship, you’ll need to register before the relevant scholarship assessment day. See the Scholarships section for more information.
