Kitchener Primary School and Nursery is a County Primary School in the City of Cardiff. It serves the areas of Riverside, Canton and Leckwith. The buildings are traditionally designed and provide indoor and outdoor areas for class activities as well as space for combined activities. A purpose built nursery was extended and refurbished in 1992. The teaching methods used in the school are a mixture of traditional and modern which have been proven in practice. All the classes comprise mixed ability pupils. The children who may require additional help with their work are supported to ensure they gain confidence in tackling all subjects. Similarly the more able and talented children are challenged in all areas of the curriculum.
Parents who are considering sending their child to Kitchener Primary School should contact the Headteacher to arrange a visit, at which time they will be given the opportunity to look around the school and ask any relevant questions. After that they must apply to the Local Education Authority for admission as it is controlled by the LEA. The Nursery has 48 places. Pupils normally attend on a part time basis either for mornings or afternoons Monday to Friday. Admission is as soon after a child’s third birthday as a place becomes available. In accordance with LEA policy, the child will transfer to full time Reception in the September of the year they will be five. This also applies to children who have not attended the Nursery.
In any one-year, should the potential admissions exceed the published admissions number of 60, priority will be given to catchment area pupils. Parents of pupils falling outside the prescribed area are entitled to appeal against the decision.
