Hamstead Hall is an Academy for the 11 – 18 age range.
There are approximately 1100 pupils on roll in September last year, including 183 in the Sixth Form. 190 pupils were admitted to Year 7 in September last year.

Previous Pattern at the Time of Allocation
In past three years the academy received more applications than there were places available. For the last year intake 867 preferences were received ranking the academy 1 – 6. The last child admitted lived 2864 metres from the academy

There is no guarantee that the same pattern will occur in current year, but parents/carers should consider the above information carefully when expressing preferences.

Admission Criteria

Any child with an Education, Health and Care Plan is required to be admitted to the School named in the plan. This gives such children overall priority for admission to the School. This is not an oversubscription criterion.

Where there are more applications than places at the School, each preference expressed by a parent for Hamstead Hall Academy is considered equally with those of other applicants and places are offered in accordance with the admission criteria as follows:

  • Looked after children or children who were previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangement or special guardianship order. This includes any child I young person who is subject to a Full Care Order, an interim Care Order, accommodated under Section 22 of the Children Act 1989, is remanded or detained into Local Authority accommodation under Criminal Law or who has been placed for adoption.
  • Children (siblings) with a brother or sister already at the school and who will still be in attendance at the time the sibling enters the Academy.
  • Children who are currently in Year 6 at Grestone Academy.
  • Children who live nearest the Academy.

Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest to the School, calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between home and the Community Learning Centre Gate on Craythorne Avenue. The home address is accurately located using a computerised mapping system, and the distance between the applicant’s home and the School is measured, by computer, to the nearest metre.

Appeals

Birmingham City Council handles our admission appeals. For more information on the appeals process please visit the Birmingham City Council website

In Year Admissions Procedures

Parents/carers submit in year applications directly to the academy by completing the Birmingham City Council Application for a Change of School (In Year) form which is available from the academy.

Section 4 of the form should be completed by the Headteacher/Principal of the child’s current or most recent school. Upon receipt of the form, the parent/carer will be notified in writing if a place can be offered or if the child is to be placed on the academy waiting list.

Applicants will be added to the waiting list in accordance with the order of priority for offering places.

  • Looked after or previously looked after children (in public care)
  • Children who are currently in Year 6 at Grestone Academy
  • Children with a brother or sister already at the academy at the time of admission.
  • Distance from the Academy
