Nursery Admissions

Children are eligible to start nursery in the September after their 3rd birthday.

Nursery applications are administered by the school (not the local authority).

At present, all our nursery places start part time and then progress to full time, usually from the 3rd week following admission, as long as the child is ready for a full time place. Currently we do not charge for nursery places, but do ask parents who are entitled to the additional 30 hour funding, to ensure they apply and renew their funding application by the specific Government deadlines.

Our Head of School undertakes our school tours. If you would like to be booked onto a tour of the school, please contact the school office (Tel: 0161 432 7036).

Reception Admissions

All applications for Reception places in Manchester schools are to be submitted via the Local Authority. If you have a nursery place here, you are not guaranteed a Reception place here. This is because nursery education is non-compulsory, and each individual school administers their own nursery. Reception places are compulsory education and the Local Authority/Council administer these.

Application Procedures

All parent/carers are required to apply to their home LA regards of where the school/academy they are applying is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parent/carers in writing of the outcome of their application.

These admission arrangements apply to applicants seeking a place in Reception up to year 6. Applications for admission to a nursery of a Manchester school/academy will be dealt with by the school, not by the LA.

Admission arrangements for voluntary aided schools, foundation schools, free schools and academies are set by their Governing Body, who are the Admission Authority for their establishment. They are responsible for drafting, consulting on and determining their admission arrangements.

Appeals Process

The appeals process for children in Reception to Year 6 is managed by Manchester City Council. Please refer to their website for more information. You cannot appeal for a Nursery place.

Manchester School Admissions can be contacted on 0161 245 7166 or by visiting the Manchester City Councils admissions website.

Nursery Admissions Policy

Nursery entitlement and hours

Three and four year olds have an entitlement to free early year’s provision for 15 hours a week for all children and 30 hours for those who meet the criteria for 30 hours childcare for working parents.

Aims

  • To ensure that the admission procedures to the Nursery are as fair and equitable as possible taking all factors into consideration.
  • To ensure our provision enhances children’s wellbeing and achievements promoting secure foundations for future learning and life.

Procedures

  • We offer places in the summer term for children to start in the autumn term, at some point in September / early October on a gradual admissions basis
  • Children on the waiting list may be offered a place mid term where a vacancy arises. Depending on availability, children moving into the area may start mid-term.
  • If offered a place parents will need to return acceptance within a stated date.
  • Parents are to complete an application form from the school office for requesting a Nursery place.

Criteria

The school will apply the following criteria as determined by Kingsway Community Trust: Admissions will be made in the following priority order:-

  • ‘Looked after’ children including previously looked after children. A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in section 22 (1) of the Children Act 1989). A previously looked after child is a child who was previously looked after but immediately after being looked after became subject to an adoption, child arrangement orders or special guardianship order.
  • Those children who will have a sibling attending Green End/Ladybarn* Primary School at the time of the applicant’s proposed admission (including half/step/adopted/foster brothers or sisters living at the same address). whichever school you have applied for
  • Those children who will have a sibling attending Cringle Brook Primary School at the time of the applicant’s proposed admission (including half/step/adopted/foster brothers or sisters living at the same address)
  • Children who live nearest to the School, calculated in a direct straight line from the child’s permanent place of residence to the school.

Oversubscription criteria

If demand exceeds supply in any of the criteria the highest priority in each category will be given to the children living nearest the school. This distance will be measured on a straight line ‘crow fly’ basis, using Ordnance Survey data. The address will be measured from the post office address point on the property.

If you are given a place in the school nursery, it does not mean your child will automatically have an admission place in Reception. You will have to apply separately to Manchester City Council for a place for your child in the Reception Class.
