This is a community and family school with 750 pupils. We are heavily oversubscribed in every year. We currently admit 150 pupils in each year group. We follow the Local Authority Admissions Code which places ‘Looked After Children’ (in public care) first, followed by siblings and then places are allocated by distance from home to school. All children are welcome - we do not have any process of selection. We have full disabled access and skilled staff to support pupils with individual needs.
Applications from Year 6 pupils should be made directly to the Local Authority. If your child is not offered a place to start at our School in Year 7 during the normal September intake, then the Local Authority will place them on our waiting list. This waiting list is transferred to Hodge Hill Girls’ School in September. If a place becomes available for your daughter you will be contacted by the school.
New in-year applications for Years 7 to 11 should be made directly to the school on the Birmingham Local Authority in-year application form. (Click here for the application form). As we are oversubscribed applications are processed according to the following criteria:
Parents will be informed by letter of the outcome of their application and their position on the waiting list. Please note that waiting lists are not fixed. They are subject to change. This means that a child’s waiting list position during the year could go up or down. This is because any applications will be added to each year group waiting list with the order of priority for offering places. Waiting lists will be maintained until the end of each academic year.
How to Appeal
Where you have been refused admission, you have the right to appeal to an independent appeal panel who can take into account your individual circumstances. The appeal panel is completely independent and decisions are legally binding.
Schools you can apply for
You can list up to six different secondary schools as preferences in your application. This can include schools outside of Birmingham. Birmingham City Council runs a co-ordinated admissions scheme with neighbouring local authorities. If you are applying for schools in another local authority then we recommend that you contact them for their admissions arrangements as this will help you to decide if your application is likely to be successful.
Birmingham City Council will only deal with applications for school places if you live in Birmingham and pay council tax to the authority. If you live in Birmingham your application must still be made to Birmingham City Council.
Admission arrangements
You must read the admission arrangements for the secondary schools you are interested in to see how likely it is that your child will be offered a place there.
In-year school admissions
Pupils usually start school at the start of the school year in September. Sometimes your child will need to start or change school after this because:
If you have moved house you will need to fill in an Application for a Change of School In-Year form and take it to your preferred school with proof of address.
If you want to apply for a place outside of Birmingham you should contact the local authority (Council) for that area.
