The goal of our Admissions Office is to help families understand our community and the holistic educational opportunities available. We like to share about what we do and how that benefits students. We've been doing this for a long time; we know the questions that families typically have, and we are more than happy to give you the straightforward information you need in order to consider our school as an option for your family. The friendly staff in Admissions will help you to navigate the application process and submit the appropriate documents to get you enrolled with a minimum of stress. Eligibility & Requirements

International School Eligibility

TCIS is registered in Korea as a “foreign school” and must follow the eligibility requirements of foreign schools. As such, foreign students must make up 70% of the total student enrollment. Students must meet one of the following:

  • Students holding citizenship and passport status in another country may apply as a foreign student.
  • Students holding Korean citizenship (including dual citizenship) may apply if at least one parent is a foreign passport holder (and non-Korean citizen.)
  • Students holding Korean citizenship (including dual citizenship) may apply if they have studied for three school years abroad or lived abroad for a total of 1095 days.

*Students attending as a foreign student from abroad must live in the country with a parent(s) or acquire an international student visa.TCIS is happy to help families apply for this visa.

Who can apply to TCIS?

  • TCIS enrolls students in Kindergarten 1 (must be 4 years old as of August) through grade 12.
  • Students may live in the Daejeon area with their parents or enroll in the boarding program in grades 6-12.
  • Students of any ethnicity or faith are welcome to apply.
  • English language proficiency requirements vary with grade level. Please contact the Admissions Office for details.

Admissions Standards

TCIS admits highly-motivated students based on a review of the following:

  • Admission Test Results: English, Writing, Math (grades 3 & up)
  • Interviews
  • Teacher Recommendations & School Reports
  • Transcripts, Standardized Test Scores
  • Priority Seating Availability

Application Steps

Check Eligibility

Please check to be sure that your child meets the Korean foreign school eligibility requirements using one of the following sets of documents:

  • “Certificate of Exit & Entry” from a Korean government office
  • Report cards showing 6 semesters of study abroad
  • Foreign Passports & Alien Registration cards

Please contact the Admissions Office to verify and submit eligibility documents.

Application Form

  • Complete the official application form and the “Consent Form for Personal Information” online.
    (Families can also complete the application on paper and send it to the TCIS Admissions Office by post or email scan.)
  • An Admissions Officer will contact you to confirm receipt of your application and about current space availability at TCIS.

Application Fee

  • After your application has been received, an Admissions Officer will contact you about payment of the Application Fee (W300,000 KRW).
  • Please sign and submit the Refund Policy Agreement along with your payment.

Testing & Interview

After receipt of your application, the Admissions Office will assist you in scheduling the admissions testing and/or interviews:

  • Age 4 - Grade 2: Interview with Teacher.
  • Grades 3-5: English Test.
  • Grades 6-12: English & Math Tests.
  • Dorm Applicants: Dorm interview with the Residence Life Program Coordinator.
  • English Language Learners: Additional English testing may be required (WIDA).

*Testing & Dorm interviews may be conducted on Zoom or in person on campus. Elementary interviews and additional English testing (WIDA) will be conducted in person.

Submit Documents

  • Supporting documents must be submitted before an admissions decision can be made.

Admissions Decision

  • After your child has completed testing and all the documents have been submitted, the final admissions decision will be made within two weeks.
  • We will contact you by phone and/or email detailing the admissions decision.

Application Timelines

TCIS processes applicationson a"rolling" basis.Whenever a student appliesfor admission, the Admissions Office will process the application as quickly as possible.

However, in order toensure completion ofthe admissions process in time tostartschoolon the first day of the Fall or Spring Semester, we ask you to try to follow these timelines:

  • Apply by May 1st to ensure your childcanbegin classes on the first day of theFall Semester (August).
  • Apply by December 1st to ensure your child canbegin classes on the first day of theSpring Semester (January).
  • Late Applications may be accepted on a "space-available" basis.

Apply

You may begin the application process either online or by downloading the application and emailing it to our admissions office. Along with the application form, you will need to submit a series of documents for verification. Applications will not be processed until these documents are received.
