We are a community of students and faculty, parents, alumni, and friends who care deeply about our school and engage in the process of growing and developing together. Collegiate is a place where people are learning every day…about themselves, each other, the world we live in, and the world we hope to participate in vigorously…equipped with knowledge and skills.
We offer this site as an opportunity for you to get to know us. We provide it as a window into the life of this wonderful, old school where we are focused on educating boys. We invite you to visit with us here. Through this website, we will continue to share the Collegiate experience with you as we busily prepare our students to meet the challenges ahead with confidence, humor, intelligence, honor, and faith in a bright future.
Approximately 650 boys are enrolled at Collegiate each year. Normally, new students are admitted to the school in Kindergarten and Grades 5, 6, 7, and 9. When openings in enrollment occur in other Lower, Middle, or Upper School grades, they become opportunities for new applicants. Through the eighth grade, the boys are divided into heterogeneously grouped homerooms. In Grades 5-12, teaching sections vary in size according to the subject being taught.
Collegiate seeks to enroll boys of sound character and educational promise. Much of the strength of Collegiate comes from the diverse backgrounds of its students. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national and ethnic origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other legally protected class. A generous financial aid program enables the school to welcome families of various financial resources.
Interviews, tests, school records, and recommendations are used to select students. None of these sources of information is given arbitrary weight by the Admissions Committee. Collegiate looks for students who will profit from its enriched program and who will be able to contribute their own special talents, abilities, imagination, and curiosity to the school community.
The information in the admissions material does not create any contractual obligation and may be changed at any time at the sole discretion of the school. Collegiate reserves the right to make changes affecting admissions policies and procedures, tuition, fees, courses of instruction, programs of study, faculty listing, academic grading policies, and general regulations.
Step1: Begin Application Process
In order to access the application and receive a personal username and account, please complete the initial form by clicking on "Begin Application Process Now".
Step 2: Application
A request for admission for the current school year can be made by submitting a completed application form and an application fee ($75) to the Admissions Office. Financial aid applicants are not required to submit the application fee. The application fee is not refundable.
Families are advised to file their applications by December 7 in order to receive consideration for placement the following September. Information concerning the possibility for new enrollment in a grade that is not annually an entry grade is available from the Admissions Office. Applications from those who wish to re-apply are not automatically carried forward from year-to-year, but may be reactivated upon request.
Step 3: Testing
Applicants for Kindergarten must register for and submit the Thinking & Engagement Assessment (T&E). Families will receive a link to register for the T&E after an application for admission is received.
Applicants for Grades 5-12 must submit ERB/ISEE (school code 333565) or SSAT (school code 2493) test results. For registration and additional information, please visit erblearn.org or ssat.org. Arrangements for testing should be made at the time of application and the results should be sent to Collegiate School.
Please note: waivers for the testing fee are available for families submitting a financial aid application.
Please call the Admissions Office if you have any questions or email us.
Step 4: School Records and Recommendations
At the time the application for admission is made, the school at which the applicant is enrolled should be asked to submit the applicant’s school report/transcript. In addition to the official school report/transcript, current recommendations from an English and math teacher are required of applicants for admission to Grades 5-12.
Step 5: Personal Letters of Recommendation
Personal letters of recommendation are not required. If letters are submitted, two are sufficient and may be sent to email.
Step 6: Essays
Applicants for Grades 6-12 should submit a copy of a composition, term paper, or other written assignment which includes feedback or has been graded by one of their current teachers. Applicants are encouraged to submit an example of work that they consider their best or most interesting. The grade the work has received is not important. The work should be at least two paragraphs long.
Step 7: Campus Tour
Parents/Guardians and applicants for the current academic year are invited to tour the school by viewing the Virtual Tour provided on the Collegiate website.
Step 8: Applicant Interview
For grades that are open for new enrollment (Kindergarten and Grades 5,6,7,9), the Admissions Office will contact the applicant’s family to schedule the required virtual appointments after an application is on file. Please note: while applications will be accepted until the December 7 deadline, appointments for interviews may be subject to an appointment waitlist after the available appointments have been filled.
