The Application Process

You've researched schools, made a plan, and are ready to apply. What's next? Complete and submit the application through either the Standard Application Online (SAO) or Gateway to Prep. The applications include:

• Biographical information
• Student Essays
• Parent Statement & Questions
• School report with transcripts (current year and two previous years)
• Current math teacher recommendation
• Current English teacher recommendation
• Current counselor or principal recommendation
• Application fee

Admission decisions are made at Kimball Union Academy without regard to race, gender, creed or national origin.

Have You Completed Your Testing?

• SSAT, PSAT, SAT or ACT test scores are required for all applicants.
• KUA's SSAT code is 4390

SSAT Tests are administered on Saturdays each month throughout the fall and winter in many locations.

The Character Skills Snapshot is a new part of the SSAT. Character and personal growth are an integral part of a Kimball Union education. Each student is so much more than a grade or test score. The Character Skills Snapshot gives us richer holistic information and illuminates areas where Kimball Union can help your child grow and thrive.

Most candidates in grades 9-11 submit SSAT scores.

Candidates taking the PSAT or SAT or ACT between September and January may submit either of those scores in place of SSAT scores.

Kimball Union Academy is a test site on the following dates:

• Saturday, October 19th of last year
• Saturday, November 16th of last year
• Saturday, December 14th of last year
• Saturday, January 4th of current year
• Saturday, February 8th of current year
• Saturday, March 7th of current year

The TOEFL Test (The Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Kimball Union Academy's TOEFL code is 8012.

International Applicants

The Application Fee is $100.

Mainland China Applicants (not including Hong Kong or Taiwan)

• The TOEFL Test (The Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Kimball Union Academy's TOEFL code is 8012.
• The minimum TOEFL score for grade 9 is 65; grade 10 is 75; grade 11 is 85; grade 12 is 95.
• Applications are due on January 15th of last year.
• Spaces available for grades 9 and 10.
• To schedule an on-campus visit, applicants must submit an official TOEFL score.
• The minimum TOEFL score for scheduling an on-campus visit is 90 for grades 9 and 10.
• If the applicant's TOEFL score is below the minimum requirements then you may request to schedule a Skype interview to complete your application.
• If the applicant has attended a school in the U.S. for at least the previous two years, please feel free to contact the admission office to see if the TOEFL score minimum for scheduling an on-campus interview can be waived.
• We recommend that applicants, in order to develop a more comprehensive profile, submit a student file from Prestans Online Academy with their application. Admission Decisions And Enrollment

Students whose applications are submitted prior to February 1 will receive admission decisions on March 10. After February 1, decisions and financial aid will be considered through rolling admission.

In late March or early April, accepted students are welcomed back to campus for Admitted Students Day, KUA's revisit program.

Students who receive a decision on March 10 are required to formally accept their offer of admission and return the signed contract and deposit to Kimball Union Academy by April 10.

Applying For Financial Aid

Families who are applying for admission and requesting financial aid for September of current year should submit their online Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) through the School and Students Service for Financial Aid (SSS) website by February 1st for a March 10th decision.

The SSS code number for Kimball Union is 4390.

After February 1st, applications and financial aid will be considered on a rolling basis. If you have questions regarding financial aid after the February 1st deadline, please e-mail financialaid@kua.org.
