La Lumiere is a boarding and day school for grades 9-12, located an hour outside of Chicago in La Porte, Indiana. Our close-knit community is a rich mosaic of exceptional students, all with the common goal of becoming the best version of themselves. At La Lumiere, we meet our students exactly where they are in order to provide them with the specific tools and opportunities they need to grow as individuals.

We are working remotely at this time, but we are still accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year. We are available to answer any questions you might have. Please email us at admissions@lalumiere.org and we will get back to you as soon as possible so that we can schedule a time to connect.

The Application Process

We're looking for intellectually curious candidates who are as excited about La Lumiere as we are. Stand-out applicants are committed to developing personally and academically, and understand the importance of being a part of a community that will both support and challenge them during their time at La Lumiere.

Step 1: Make an Admissions Inquiry

Fill out our online inquiry form below or request more information by calling (219) 326-7450. After you complete your inquiry, we will e-mail you a username to login to our application portal with additional instructions on how to apply.

If you do not receive your login information for the Application Portal within 1 business day of submitting your inquiry form, please contact us at admissions@lalumiere.org.

Step 2: Apply in our Application Portal or using the SAO

Use your La Lumiere username to access your Admissions Checklist. La Lumiere also accepts the Standard Application Online (SAO).

To complete your application, please submit the following:

  • Application Form
  • Transcripts (from the past three consecutive years of schooling)
  • Recommendation Forms (from your current Math and English teachers)
  • Graded Essay (a recent graded writing sample)
  • Student Essay (prompt is located in the application portal)
  • Opptional Supplement (Head of School recommendation)

Step 3: Interview

All La Lumiere applicants must be interviewed by a member of the La Lumiere community. Contact the Admissions team at admissions@lalumiere.org to schedule your interview. If you come to campus for a shadow day, we can schedule your interview during your visit. If you are unable to come to campus for an in-person interview, the interview can be conducted via FaceTime or Skype.

Step 4: Apply for Financial Aid

Submit your application for financial aid (if applicable).

The benefits of a La Lumiere education are many and comprise the foundation of our students’ future success. We believe that the value of the La Lumiere experience is clear, but understand that affording an independent school tuition can sometimes present a significant obstacle. As such, we diligently work to help qualified families close the gap between what they can afford and the cost of a La Lumiere education.

Each academic year, La Lumiere provides financial assistance to one in four of our students who, for financial reasons, could not otherwise attend the school. Financial assistance decisions are based upon the need of the family and have no bearing on our admission decisions.

La Lumiere uses a third-party verification company, FACTS, to determine the eligibility of families interested in applying for tuition assistance. Families interested in applying for financial assistance should log into the FACTS website and follow the step-by-step instructions provided.

It is the policy of La Lumiere School not to discriminate in violation of the law on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, gender identity and expression, national origin, ancestry, or physical or mental disability which are unrelated to the ability to work or enjoy the benefits of the school's programs, facilities, or services. All persons are encouraged to apply.

Admissions Events

Open Houses

La Lumiere hosts open houses each year in the fall and spring. We welcome you to spend the morning engaging with various members of our community and experiencing La Lumiere first-hand. Click here to learn more about open house programming.

Living Room Chats

Members of the La Lumiere community graciously open their homes to parents who are interested in learning more about the school for an evening of friendly and informative conversation. We encourage you to take advantage of these special opportunities to gather in an intimate setting with the people who know our community best.

School Fairs & School Visits

Each fall, the La Lumiere Admissions Team travels to school fairs around the region to meet with parents and prospective students. Fairs are a great way for prospective families to connect with La Lumiere while we're in your area.

Overnight Shadow Visits are scheduled monthly on the first Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon.

Please contact the Admissions team at admissions@lalumiere.org if you are interested in scheduling your Overnight Shadow Visit.

Shadow Days

Shadow days are required for all local applicants and are offered on Mondays and Tuesdays during the school year. The Admissions team will be in touch with you prior to your visit with important Shadow Day details.
