Students are admitted to VIS regardless of race, gender, nationality or religion provided they meet all the admission requirements as outlined in this policy. Applications for admission are accepted throughout the year, and VIS seeks to accept qualified students who meet our admission requirements, provided seats are available. Admissions assessment tests are conducted according to the timeline set out by the Ministry of Education.
Note: The receipt and completion of the VIS application form do NOT secure a student’s acceptance into VIS. Admission is subject to the candidate meets all admission requirements and seats being available. Applications are only dated as received when all of the supporting documentation has been provided.
General Criteria for Entry
Placement of admitted students in all classes will be made by the Admissions Committee on the following basis: the student’s age, their academic and behavioral reports for the previous two years, and their performance on the assessment test.
Re-assessment
The initial assessment of a student is tentative and the school reserves the right to re-assess the student’s placement if necessary. In such instances, parents will be notified that a reassessment will need to take place. VIS will conduct a thorough review that may include class observations and additional testing to determine the best course of action – one that will be best suited to the student’s abilities and developmental/maturational, cognitive, academic, and intellectual levels, and that will foster better progress and success for the student overall.
For students wanting to start at the beginning of a new school year, re-testing (depending on availability of seats), will only be conducted in August, or at the discretion of the Admissions team.
For students who are denied a place at VIS following the initial assessment, in certain circumstances, the Admissions Team will consider scheduling a reassessment at a later date, if a child is committed to tutoring between the first assessment and reassessment date. In these cases, formal evidence of tutoring will be required prior to offering a reassessment. Tutoring and reassessment do not guarantee acceptance. This option is at the discretion of the Admissions Team and is not guaranteed.
English Language Ability
All children applying to enroll in VIS, with the exception of Pre-K, KG1, and KG2, will be expected to demonstrate reasonable competency in the English language. In the higher grades, especially from Grade 3 and up they should be proficient in the English language in order to effectively negotiate the curriculum.
Moderate Learning Challenges
VIS is unable to service children with moderate or severe behavioral or learning difficulties. VIS can only enroll children who we deem capable of achieving success given the rigorous academic program and college-preparatory nature of the school program.
