Get ready for a future filled with wonderful possibilities.

Research has shown that learning languages, particularly beginning at an early age, encourages creativity, attention, focus, strength in academics, sensitivity and openness to other cultures and ways of life. Preschool, Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten students do not need prior exposure to French, and their comprehension of French soars in our French immersion environment. Beginning in Grade 1, students can join us from other French immersion schools locally, nationally or internationally or from a native French speaking setting.

At CFIS we provide a robust educational experience where academics, leadership and global citizenship are fostered, and we do it all in French.  Learn about the benefits of a French immersion education here.

How to Apply

Calgary French & International School welcomes new and returning students each year.

Eligibility

In our entry-level grades, preschool, junior kindergarten and kindergarten, no previous experience in French is required. Starting in Grade 1, and for intake up to Grade 12, all students must be attending a French or French immersion environment, or be native French speakers, to make an application to attend CFIS.

Application process

CFIS looks at a prospective student’s academic record, character, and citizenship qualities when assessing a good fit.  We also look for a family commitment to french immersion education and the greater CFIS community. The process varies at different levels but starts with the submission of a completed application that includes:

  • Application form
  • Confidential questionnaire or reference from a non-family member referee that has worked with your child
  • Copy of birth certificate or passport
  • Student questionnaire - for students applying to grade 3 and older
  • Recent head-and-shoulders photograph
  • Previous school reports
  • Application fee

All applications received prior to the application deadline will be given equal consideration, regardless of the timing of their receipt.

Please apply only in the appropriate year and not sooner. Students are invited to attend an assessment, which includes a locally developed, age-appropriate evaluation, and an interview with CFIS faculty.

After all documentation, observations, and assessment results are reviewed, the enrollment office notifies families of decisions made regarding the application. All enrollment decisions are final.
