Applying to Centennial is a process, and we will help guide you through it.

Important:  If any of the above documents are in a foreign language, a certified translation is required in English or French.  We will require both original and translated versions.

Note: In Quebec, French is the language of instruction for primary and secondary studies in both public and subsidized private schools. To be eligible to study in English at Centennial, students must have a Certificate of English Language Eligibility issued by the Quebec Government. If the student does not have a Certificate of English Language Eligibility, Centennial Academy will assist in obtaining one. However, the decision is made by the Quebec Government if an applicant is approved for this certificate and conditions need to be met to obtain one.

International Applicants: Obtaining Immigration Documentation

If you are an applicant who is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you will need to obtain permission to study in Quebec from the Government of Quebec and the Government of Canada. You must apply for a Certificate of Acceptance of Quebec (CAQ) and a Study Permit.

Acquiring these documents might take some time; inform yourself about visa regulations and processing times at the Canadian Embassy or Consulate in your region. We suggest at least three months before the start of school.  Centennial Academy does not issue any immigration documents. If a student has not secured the appropriate immigration documentation, they will not be able to attend our school under any circumstances.

To procure a CAQ and a Study Permit, you must first apply to Centennial Academy and obtain a letter of acceptance to our school.  An applicant must be accepted at Centennial Academy on a full-time basis in order for both governments to consider granting permission to study in Canada to a foreign student. Your letter of acceptance from Centennial will be needed to start your applications with both governments.

Note: You must apply for the CAQ first from Immigration Quebec in order to apply and obtain a Study Permit from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. A Study Permit cannot be applied for within Canada, but it can be renewed once the student is in the country.

Once having received the CAQ and Study Permit, you must provide the original copies to the admissions office at Centennial Academy so that the student file can be completed. It is the parent or legal guardian’s responsibility to ensure that immigration documentation is accurate before registering and confirming that the student will attend the high school. No exceptions will be made for students who do not have their CAQ and Study Permit.

Note:  If you don’t have Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status, a Medical Health Insurance plan must be purchased (see helpful links section).  A proof of medical insurance coverage must be provided to the admissions office as part of the applicant file. Minor children may study without a study permit if they have:

  • Official Refugee Status
  • Parent’s Work Permit
  • Parent’s Study Permit
  • Parent’s diplomatic visa / letter of protocol
  • Minors who fall in one of the above categories should apply for a valid Visitor Visa during their stay in Canada.

If your legal documentation expiries

You must keep a valid study permit or visitor visa status during your stay in Canada and Quebec. Usually, this means a valid CAQ and study permit. If you’re allowed to study in Canada without a study permit, then you must have a valid visitor visa.

If your documentation has expired and you haven’t applied to renew it, you are allowed to continue studying until a decision is made to reinstate your student status. You must submit your application with the Government within 90 days of the date of losing your study/visitor status. After this period, you can no longer study or register for school. It is important that you monitor the expiration dates on your legal documentation as you progress through High School.
