Kia ora, international students

ACG Strathallan is a popular study destination for students from around the world. Our international students contribute to our school’s rich level of diversity, and help enrich the education of our entire student body.

A ‘Kiwi’ experience

ACG Strathallan is ideally positioned to offer international students the best of both worlds. Just 20 minutes from New Zealand’s largest shopping centre, the school is close to city attractions yet has plenty of space and a peaceful atmosphere giving students a glimpse into rural New Zealand life. International students integrate quickly into the wider school cohort through their involvement in class trips, extracurricular activities and social events.

ESOL support

Students who speak English as a second language are well supported by the school. New students enter an Intensive English Language Programme, and are regularly assessed on their progress. As English competence improves, students are introduced to more mainstream subjects. Ongoing ESOL support is facilitated by teacher aides who have constant awareness of each student’s individual needs.

International dean

A dedicated staff member is responsible for the wellbeing of international students, ensuring they are adapting well to New Zealand school life. Communication with parents occurs regularly, and any roadblocks to learning are identified and resolved quickly in consultation with parents.

Mid-year start option

Students finishing school in June in their home country do not need to wait until January to start at ACG Strathallan. We can accommodate new international students starting in Term Three (July) and Term Four (October). A bridging programme in Term Four helps international students adjust to the New Zealand academic environment in advance of the following school year.
