Step One: Application for Enrolment

Please read the Terms and Conditions and then complete the Application for Enrolment Form and forward to AIC Admissions. The following items are required with the application (check before submitting the application):

  • Passport size photograph of applicant
  • Photocopy of birth certificate/passport/student visa
  • Photocopies of two most recent school reports
  • Photocopies of other relevant academic qualifications (including English language proficiency tests)
  • For all international applicants, photocopies must be certified ‘true and correct’

Step Two

All students whose parents are not living in Auckland must apply for AIC Boarding or AIC Homestay. Please fill in the Boarding Application Form and forward it to AIC Admissions, or fill in the on-line Homestay Application Form.

Step Three: Testing and Interviews

Following receipt of the application, the applicant will be invited to sit the AIC entrance tests. The applicant may then be invited for a short interview at the school.

Step Four: Enrolment Confirmation

In the event of a successful application, the applicant will receive a written Offer of Place. To secure this place, the relevant documents must be completed and returned to the school. Payment of fees (as detailed in the Admissions supplement) will be required before the student may commence study.

Entrance Criteria

AIC operates a selective entry admissions policy, based on the requirement that students demonstrate a self-motivated attitude to learning and based on English and Mathematics entrance tests. This ensures students will thrive academically and will be successful in gaining admission to quality universities in New Zealand and overseas.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

Students are required to have successfully completed their secondary education up to the equivalent of New Zealand Year 11 or to have successfully completed the Preparation Year Programme for IB Diploma with a grade average of 4 and a minimum Research Project grade of C. Overseas students need to have a minimum Academic IELTS level of 5.0 or TOEFL iBT total minimum score of 35 to be admitted to Year 12.

The minimum age recommended by the IBO is 16. However under exceptional circumstances AIC would consider an applicant aged 15 years at the start of the school year.

Year 12 Entry:

Due to a high demand for Year 12 entry, there are only a limited number of places available each year for Year 12.Applicants are therefore advised to apply for the Year 11 programme in order to secure a place later on in Year 12.Please note, subject selection priority is always given to internal Year 11 students transferring into Year 12.

Direct Entry to Year 12 Closing Date:

Closing Date: 1 March. Late applications after this date will be waitlisted.

Preparation Year Programme for IB Diploma

Students are required to have successfully completed their secondary education up to the equivalent of New Zealand Year 10. Overseas students need to have commenced Year 11 with a minimum Academic IELTS level of 4.5 or TOEFL iBT total minimum score of 32.

The minimum age recommended is 15 years old. However under exceptional circumstances AIC would consider an applicant aged 14 years at the start of the school year.

AIC English for Senior Secondary Studies

Students should have successfully completed their secondary education up to the equivalent of New Zealand Year 9. Overseas students need to have a minimum Academic IELTS level of 3.5. The minimum age recommeded is 14 years old, however in exceptional circumstances AIC would consider an applicant aged 13 years.
