Lycée International - American Section

Admission to the American Section is selective. At each grade level, we seek students with age-appropriate English skills and the ability to juggle our demanding dual curriculum that is predominantly French. For students who do not already speak French, we offer an immersion program called Français Spécial. This intensive course allows students ages 7–15 to acquire sufficient mastery of the language to then integrate into bilingual classes the following year.

We look forward to hearing from you and thank you for considering the American Section and Lycée International for your child’s education.

Your Application

In accordance with national health measures now in place, the American Section Admissions Office is currently closed. Please be advised that staff are working remotely and will continue to process the application files that were received before the January deadline. All testing has also been cancelled until further notice.

To begin the application process for these grades, please click on the button below. Before applying, we ask that you read our Admissions Handbook, which answers most common questions and includes step-by-step application instructions and details for each grade level.

For other grades, we encourage you to check our website regularly for enrollment possibilities, especially later this spring.

For further information, feel free to contact the Admissions Office at admissions@americansection.org.

Acceptance Criteria and Testing

Acceptance to the American Section at Lycée International is based on overall academic achievement and the likelihood of success in the dual-culture, bilingual education program.

In addition, we seek to enroll students who have:

  • Native or near-native level English language proficiency (vocabulary, language skills, and reading ability)
  • Affinity with American culture

French language skills are not a requirement for applicants to the French-language immersion. There are, however, specific academic criteria to be met.

Apart from the youngest children (PreK–Second Grade/MS–CE1) and Français Spécial applicants, most decisions are made on file.

All favorable recommendations are submitted to the Headmaster of the French school (the Proviseur) for final approval.

Once a student has been accepted, an official acceptance letter will be mailed to parents.

Students are officially registered once completed paperwork has been returned and the registration fee and advance deposit paid.

Once a student has been accepted, a formal acceptance letter is mailed to parents. Letters are generally sent in early June for the following school year. Students are not officially registered until completed paperwork has been returned and both registration fee and advance deposit are paid.

Campus Assignment

To maximize the number of student who can benefit from our unique programs, the Lycée International has developed a network of partner schools for Lower and Middle School, and an externé program in Lower School. The American Section works with two schools in Saint-Germain-en-Laye to accommodate additional Lower and Middle School students.

The decision of where children are assigned is based on many criteria, including space availability, student profile, and parental preference. The student's assigned campus will be specified in the acceptance letter.

Our partner schools feature dedicated American Section classrooms and libraries, and use the same learning tools and curriculum as those on the Lycée International campus. Classes on all three campuses are taught by American Section teachers. When not in their American Section classes, these students are in regular classes with the other students following the national French education curriculum.
