Nursery Admissions Process

Admission to Taunton School Nursery is available for children aged between 6 months and 4 years. From Nursery the next step is a seamless transition into the Reception Class of our Pre-Prep School.

Admissions Process

Enquiry
Please make your enquiry by email to tppsadmissions@tauntonschool.co.uk or telephone 01823 703339 with your child’s name and date of birth.

We will send you a comprehensive and informative Prospectus Pack, together with links to view our online virtual tours.

Arrange to visit Taunton School Nursery (within the Covid-19 restrictions set out at the time of your application). It may well be that actual visits to the Nursery are postponed on occasions.

Registration
In order to apply for a place at Nursery, you need to complete the Registration Form and pay a non-refundable registration fee of £100.

We encourage you to visit the nursery prior to registering. However, if this is not possible, then please contact us to request a copy of the Registration Form and return a signed copy to Nursery Admissions with the £100 registration fee, together with a copy of your child’s birth certificate or passport.

Any child may be registered from birth. We are also happy to accept registration forms prior to the birth of your child, if you are comfortable with this. It should be noted that we cannot offer places if the nursery is full.

Registration does not confirm a place at the nursery, but ensures that your child’s name is added to the waiting list if a place is not available. Offers are made on a first come first served basis, although siblings of current Taunton School pupils are given priority.

Nursery places are subject to availability. If a place is not available, parents will be given the opportunity to join the waiting list. When a place becomes available within the relevant Nursery Room, the parents of the child at the top of the waiting list will be contacted and offered a place.

Please contact Nursery Admissions prior to registering to check availability on 01823 703339 or email tppsadmissions@tauntonschool.co.uk.

Acceptance
We will send an offer letter to you, specifying the sessions that are booked and the start date. If you wish to accept the place, you will need to complete and sign the Acceptance Forms and return them to Nursery Admissions with the £750 acceptance deposit*. You will be requested to respond within a specified time if you wish to accept the offer made, otherwise the offer will lapse.

If a place is not available, you will be notified that you have been placed on the waiting list.

Additional sessions may be requested once your child has joined the Nursery, space permitting. We request at least half a term’s notice should you wish to change or increase the number of sessions your child attends the Nursery.

Should you wish to withdraw your child from the Nursery, we ask for one term’s notice in writing, which must be acknowledged by Nursery Admissions.

*The Acceptance Deposit is refundable for children who progress through to the Preparatory School Year 3. In order to support military, medical and professional families, should your family be relocated away from the Somerset area, the deposit will be refunded against your final invoice from the Nursery.

Induction
As your start date approaches, we will invite you to attend an induction meeting with your child’s new Nursery Room Leader. We will also send you an information booklet (‘All About Me’) for you to complete and bring with you to this meeting. This book asks for information about your family and your child. All this information will help us to get to know you and your child quickly, and helps with the settling-in process.

The induction meeting is a time to ask more questions (no matter how small!), review your information booklet together and discuss how you may like to manage the initial settling-in process of your child. Some children and parents prefer a short, quick drop-off, whilst others need a gradual settling-in programme.

If you are joining the Nursery in September, we also have a new pupils and parents tea party in our grounds the day before Autumn Term commences. There is always a lovely atmosphere at the tea party. It gives your family and your child an opportunity to meet our Nursery team, explore the site, familiarise the children with new environments and wear their new uniform for the first time (this is for Nursery 3 and above)

No entrance examination is required, and selection is based on an interview (in person where possible), report and reference. Admission may also be gained by scholarship entry.
