Bede’s welcomes boys and girls able and eager to benefit from the unique character of our school and the many opportunities it offers for nurturing their academic and personal development.
We understand how daunting the process of choosing the next school for your child can be, and these pages are designed to help you begin that process. Our Admissions team is also at the end of the telephone, ready to offer more information tailored to you, but the most important first step is, of course, to visit us.
Many families choose to come to one of our Open Days first and then book their own bespoke tour and introductory chat. What we can promise, is that whatever form your visit takes, you will meet our pupils – our greatest asset – and discover from them why Bede's might be the perfect fit for your child.
ur aim is be the school of choice for parents seeking an outstanding all-round education, along with a wealth of new experiences and outstanding pastoral care for their children.
Children have only one chance of education and it is our role to support and extend them in the classroom, to develop their passions and help them to discover new challenges, through our co-curricular programme. Our Admissions Process ensures that key staff have the essential information about your child to ensure they follow the right academic courses, access the sports and clubs they want to and benefit from our outstanding pastoral care.
All prospective pupils and their families are advised to visit the School before registering with us.
Open Mornings
Our Open Mornings, held in March and September, offer an opportunity for a first informal visit to Bede’s. Families are shown around the school by one of our pupils, who will make sure you have plenty of time to look at the areas of the school you are particularly interested in. The Headmaster gives a short talk during the morning and some of our pupils relate their experiences of Bede’s. All key staff are available to meet.
Arrange a personal visit here. For more information, please contact us via telephone on +44 (0) 1323 356609 or email us via admissions@bedes.org.
Some families prefer to book an individual tour and introductory chat without attending an Open Morning, others book after an Open Morning. One of our pupils will be your guide for the tour and, as well as making sure you see all that is important to you, he or she will be very happy to answer questions.
The tour is followed by a chat with one of our senior staff, who will offer guidance on the Admissions Process and again, answer any questions.
For pupils looking to join Bede's in Year 9, we recommend that the visits take place when your son or daughter is in Year 6 or earlier.
Once you have visited Bede's Senior School, you will need to register your son or daughter with us, before we can move forward with the Admissions Process.
When we have received the Registration Form, a member of the Admissions Team will contact you to arrange the next stage of the process. We will also contact your son or daughters’ current school for a reference and school reports.
The Bede’s Experience Day is the focus for those planning to join us in Year 9. Most children will join us for a BE Day when they are in Year 7 and we run a number of BE Days throughout the year.
Children attend in groups of 20 and the day consists of a group task, a group discussion, an individual interview, a computer-based verbal and non-verbal reasoning test and, after lunch the chance to join an activity of choice.
Whilst Bede’s Experience Days are designed to make sure that we can offer your child the support and ambition they need, they also serve as something of a taster day for your son and daughter and children thoroughly enjoy the day.
We will write to you, normally within a week of the BE Day, to let you know if we are offering your son or daughter a place at Bede’s. Our offers are not conditional upon Common Entrance results, so if the offer of a place is made, you can be secure in the knowledge that your child will be joining us in Year 9.
We have a few places available for entry into Year 10.Applicants will be invited to attend a formal interview and complete verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests. Offers are made on the basis of the interview, the tests and reference and reports from current school.
Pupils wishing to join Bede’s for the Sixth Form, attend a formal interview with a member of our senior staff and a member of our Sixth Form Team.
Before the interview, we will have been in contact with the pupil’s current school for references, reports and GCSE predications.
Offers are conditional on pupils gaining five GCSEs at Level 6 and above, to be accepted on an A Level programme. (Please note, around one third of subjects require Level 7 or above at GCSE to be accepted on to the course).
Pupils applying to join our BTEC programme require five GCSEs at Level 4 or above. Our Sixth Form Team will be available on GCSE results day to confirm results.
Since its foundation in 1978, Bede’s Senior School has had a strongly international outlook and a diverse boarding community has been at the heart of the School throughout its 40 year history.
Bede's boasts five stunning boarding houses, two of which were recognised by the Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 2013 for their Outstanding Design and Innovation It is a testament to this tradition that our pupil reunions are always well attended by ex-pupils who are now based overseas, often in person and sometimes via the joys of modern technology.
We are exceptionally proud that Bede’s presently has nearly 30 nationalities represented in our boarding houses. Families and friends of families recommend our school to one another and while this diversity breeds further diversity, it also contributes to the profound sense that Bede’s is its own distinct, welcoming community.
