If you would like to consider a place at Millfield Pre-Prep for your child, the first thing to do is to come and visit us. We would be delighted to give you a tour of the school and if you think your child would enjoy Millfield you can formally apply for a place by completing the online Registration Form. If applicable, we will then request a reference from your current school; on receipt of this, we will invite you to bring your child for a taster day. We would then formally offer a place and the return of the Acceptance Form completes the entry procedure. You may, of course, enter your child for future years but we would not normally complete the paperwork until the year preceding admission.
Two year olds may enter the term after their second birthday. Thereafter, children may enter at anytime throughout the academic year.
If you are interested in a Pre-School space, please complete the PDF Registration Form.

By completing a Registration Form, you are showing a firm expression of interest and this is the first step towards securing a place at Millfield Prep.
Once we have received a completed Registration Form and fee, we will write for a reference from the candidate's school.
After receiving a reference from your child's current school we will contact you to arrange a time for your child to complete their interview and assessment, either at Millfield Prep or remotely.
The interview
All pupils joining Millfield Prep have an entrance interview with the Head of Year or Tutor for Admissions. This will last around 15 minutes and centre on the academic interests of the candidate, their extra-curricular activities and experiences. Pupils may also meet with key pastoral staff.
The assessment
Following interview, candidates will usually sit a computer-based reasoning assessment. The assessment can usually be completed remotely and further details are available from the Admissions department. Pupils with support needs will meet staff from the Learning Development Centre.
The offer of a place will usually be sent out within a week of interview and assessment, and between three to four weeks for scholarship candidates.
In the term before entry, usually by the end of May, we will send the full Joining Instructions containing detailed information, including House placements and links to forms that will require completing and returning. House allocations will usually be sent by the end of June.
In September, new day and boarding pupils arrive on the Sunday before term starts for welcome events and meetings with senior staff and tutors.
Millfield is an academically selective school. Selection is based upon academic merit, which is assessed through entry tests, interview and by references from the candidate's current school. Our selection process is designed to identify students who are able to benefit from a well-rounded and balanced education and make a positive contribution towards the life of the school. Millfield is the largest co-ed boarding and day school in the UK with 1330 students, over 990 of which are full boarders. However, our class sizes are small, with an average of just 11 students.
