Private Tours

Private visits to Holmewood are available during term-time, so that you can see the school on a normal working day. You will be able to observe current pupils in lessons or in play on the sports fields. This will also provide the opportunity for you to meet with the Head.

Entry Requirements

Early Year Foundation Stage and Key Stage One (Nursery to Year 2) Children can join the Pre-Nursery from the term in which they turn three years old. We accept new pupils throughout the school year. Nursery children are invited to come into Holmewood for a taster session with their parents before starting with us.

Year 7 Entry

Many of our parents choose Holmewood because of the strong 13+ ethos which prepares children for entry to the top Public Schools in the country. Whilst some pupils do leave at 11+ either to the Kent Grammar schools or to local day independent schools, the majority stay on at Holmewood.

As a result we are able to admit a number of children into the senior part of the school for Years 7 and 8, where all children follow the two year Common Entrance programme of study, which is the standard entrance examination route to the senior independent schools. Roughly two thirds of the children will sit the Common Entrance exams, while one third of the year group prepares for highly competitive Scholarship exams to these schools. Awards can be gained for outstanding academic ability as well as for music, sport, art, and drama and design technology.

Pupils who join Holmewood at 11+ might do so from local Prep Schools which stop at the end of Year 6. Others might join from local Primary schools, from London day schools or from abroad. Some pupils might have taken the Kent 11+ but narrowly missed out and seek a route either into the private sector or into the Kent 13+ Grammar School.

If you would like more information about admissions entry at 11+ into Year 7 please contact the Registrar, Mrs Caroline Mulley at cmulley@holmewoodhouse.co.uk or by phone on 01892 860006.

Overseas Applications

Holmewood House Preparatory School is one of the UK’s leading Prep Schools, feeding to the major public schools in England and we welcome applications for places for children of families currently resident overseas.

The school is very proud of the boarding tradition at Holmewood. We strongly believe that Boarding gives children a chance to make even greater use of the school’s extensive facilities and beautiful location. A busy and fun-filled activity programme throughout the whole week gives boarders time to enjoy each other’s company and build relationships that will stand the test of time.

We have a thriving, busy environment and we need to ensure that your child can adequately access our broad curriculum and benefit from the educational opportunities on offer, from an English language and general academic point of view.

If you are resident overseas and wish to enquire about a place for your child, please contact our Registrar Mrs Caroline Mulley at: cmulley@holmewoodhouse.co.uk
