Thank you for your interest in The John Carroll School! I am delighted that you are considering JC and look forward to working with you and your family as you begin the journey of finding the right school for your child.
As you start this important process during this uncertain time, it is my hope that by interacting virtually with our students, faculty, administrators, parents and alumni, you will understand our mission and get a sense of what it means to be a part of the Patriot community. The Admissions Team is dedicated to making it easy for your family to get to know JC while getting to know your child, even if it can't be in person just yet!
Since 1964, John Carroll has been known for its challenging college preparatory program that incorporates critical thinking, independent exploration, a global perspective and real-life experiences. Our rigorous academic programs enable students to transition to college-level courses with confidence and ease, and our highly qualified and engaging staff nurture and motivate students to reach their full potential every day.
Delving into our website is the first step in getting to know John Carroll— the only coeducational, independent, Catholic high school in northeastern Maryland. While we are currently unable to welcome you to our 72-acre campus to feel the spirit of community which is a hallmark of our school in person, we are doing our best to capture and share that spirit online! Our Virtual Visit page outlines some of the ways you can learn more about our faculty, staff, students, programs and campus, even when you can't physically visit.
Is JC Right for You? "See" for Yourself.
In the absence of in-person visits, we are working on ways for you to virtually get to know John Carroll. Check back soon as we continue to add virtual visit opportunities!
Take a Virtual Tour Chat With a Current JC Parent
In addition to the above, you can contact our Admissions Team to set up a virtual meeting.
In-Person Visit Opportunities - Fall in Current Year
It is our hope that we are able to once again greet you in person when we return to school for the current school year at one of these scheduled events.
We invite eighth grade students to shadow between September – January. Registration for fall and winter shadow days will open this summer.
During a shadow day, student visitors will be paired with a JC freshman or sophomore student ambassador and will attend classes and meet faculty, administrators, coaches and other students. This will help prospective Patriots to get a true feel for a day in the life of a JC Patriot and begin to picture themselves as a part our community.
Parents are invited to stay for 30 minutes of Coffee and Conversation from 8:30 a.m.– 9 a.m. with representatives from John Carroll administration who will share a presentation and be available to answer any questions. Following the presentation, you are invited to take a 15 minute tour.
Our annual Open House for current year is Saturday, November 7 from 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. Tour our school. Meet the teachers and coaches. Speak with other students. Hear from parents. Learn about our unique academics, incredible arts and expansive athletic programs. And experience the energy of our vibrant school community. The Admissions team will be on hand to answer questions and walk parents through the process.
Registration opens this summer!
Becoming a Patriot
A special note for all Institute of Notre Dame students:
Our hearts are heavy knowing your high school experience will look much different than you anticipated. We are here to help with the transition to a new school however we can. Please see our dedicated page for IND students for more information.
Class, you’re just 10 steps away from starting your Patriot story!
JC accepts students who are motivated to meet the rigor of college-prep work, eager to learn and succeed in an academic environment and whose personal qualities make them a good fit for our community. High school candidates are evaluated on:
But that’s not all we consider. We know each student is more than a sum of grades and scores. That’s why we interview each applicant and their family – to look for what’s not on your transcript. We want students who can show that they’re willing to lead; who seek to collaborate when solving problems; who incorporate critical thinking; who see strength in diverse perspectives and most of all, who can maximize every opportunity to create their own Patriot story and make their mark on the world.
While our world looks a bit different these days, we invite you to start your Patriot journey today!
Please note that students who are also applying for acceptance to special academic programs may need to complete additional recommendations.
