At Wellington School, we welcome applications for places at all ages, although the most popular entry year groups for boys and girls are Year 7, Year 9 and the Sixth Form.
Do view our virtual tour so that you can get a feel for the School before coming to visit.A website and a prospectus do not show the whole picture and when possible we would be delighted to show parents and pupils around what we consider to be a very happy place.
Admission criteria vary according to age. We would be delighted to arrange a tour of the School and a meeting with the Headmaster and when government guidelines allow to arrange a taster day for pupils. If you wish to proceed, a registration form and fee is then requested. The only year groups where we do not admit pupils are Year 11 which is mid-way through the GCSE course and the Upper Sixth. Although theoretically it is possible to change schools during the public examination courses, we find that, in reality, it is impossible to match syllabuses. In such cases we would always recommend re-starting the A Level course, even if this does mean dropping back a year.
Our admissions process for September will see each candidate being asked to:
Our Year 7 intake is approximately half from our Prep School and half from surrounding Primary Schools.
We run Taster Days for our incoming Year 7 pupils, where they come in a small group and spend the day in School sampling a range of lessons, have lunch in the Dining Hall and take part in some musical and sporting activities. These taster days will take place in the the Autumn Term .
We invite all incoming Year 7 pupils and parents to a relaxed, informal Welcome Evening in the summer, where pupils will meet their House Masters and Mistresses, see the houserooms and have supper. For the parents, it is a chance to find out the details of the School Day, such as prep, buses, timetables, tutors and uniform. They also have supper and make friends with parents they will be spending the forthcoming years with.
The day before the start of term, pupils are invited in for a day in School to find their way around, settle in, make friends and feel comfortable before the rest of the School returns,
Regular contact with tutors follows in the first weeks and the whole year goes off camping together in week two, so everyone gets to know each other!
For any further information, or if you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Team on 01823 668803 or email at admissions@wellington-school.org.uk
A number of pupils join the School in Year 8 and for children looking to join in September these pupils will take part in a combination of written and oral assessments and will be interviewed by the Head of Lower School.
We would encourage pupils to spend a Taster Day in the School with Year 7 pupils to learn about the School day and start to make friends.

This is a course for International Students. Students must be 15 or 16 at the start of the course, and hold an IELTS 5.0 or above. Complete the registration form and return with registration fee (£100) and the student’s recent school reports. All students will be required to sit our Mathematics test and English test to help us determine the level of support required. We will also set up an online interview. If the required academic standards are met, an offer of a place will be made which can then be accepted by the student.
