We want your application process to be clear and easy so we provided you with step by step instructions below. However, if you have any questions, please contact our Admissions Team on 01749 834 441 / admissions@wells.cathedral.school, and we’ll be happy to help.
We accept applications year-round for entrance when space permits, and pupils can enter the school at any year group. We look forward to working with you through the application process.
Step 1. Request information
Simply contact admissions, and we’ll send you information relevant for your family.
Step 2. Arrange a visit or online meeting and/or attend an Open Day
Nothing beats seeing our beautiful independent school in action so please do contact our Admissions team and make an appointment to come and see us. If you are unable to come in person, our Admissions Team would also be delighted to make an appointment so you can meet us ‘virtually’. We look forward to hearing from you. You can also join us for an Open Day, which we hold throughout the year.
Step 3. Register
If you would like to proceed with admission for your child, please contact our Admissions Team who will issue you with our online registration form. If you’re interested in applying for one of our scholarships, you will also need to return the relevant form with the registration form, which includes submission of recent school reports. Please note that applications for our Specialist Music Programme is a separate process;
Step 4. Entrance Assessments
Once you have registered, our Admissions Team will make arrangements for an online academic assessment and a short interview. We will also seek references from your child’s current school.
Candidates from Prep Schools
For candidates joining us from a prep school, we mark Common Entrance 13+ Examinations on behalf of your child’s current school; however it is not a requirement for entry and all candidates also sit our own assessment tests. We do not provide past papers.
Sixth Form
For Sixth Form entry, we will require predicted grades as well as actual grades in the summer, to ensure that our published entry requirements are met. Pupils will need satisfactory IGCSE or GCSE results in at least six subjects at grades 9-4 (A* to C ) and typically a minimum of grade 7 or 6 (A or B) in the chosen areas of Sixth Form study. Exceptions to this may be made for those following a Specialist Music course.
Other Assessed Areas
Please note that we may request additional assessments or arrange meetings or interviews with other members of staff, to ensure that we are able to provide the right environment for your child.
Step 5. Offer and Acceptance
Once your child has registered, completed the tests, attended an interview and any other steps that need to be taken into account, and we have received a satisfactory reference, you will be sent a formal offer letter and the accompanying contract documents. When we have received the signed contract and deposit, your child will then have a place at Wells Cathedral School.
