Normally pupils enter Christ’s Hospital at Year 7, Year 9 or Sixth Form as boarders or day pupils. Occasionally, we can admit children at Year 8 or 10.
We encourage you to visit Christ’s Hospital on one of our termly Open Mornings to enable you to see the School in action. To find out more or for assistance with your application, please do not hesitate to contact the Admissions Office.

Our selection process is designed to determine whether a child will flourish in a busy boarding school environment with a strong academic ethos, enjoying the wide range of opportunities on offer, and feel at home at Christ’s Hospital.
Parents are advised to start the admissions process as early as possible and ideally at least 18 months before their child would be due to enter the School.
Places at the School are academically selective and are offered on the basis of Christ’s Hospital’s own assessments.
We welcome day pupils who are within a commutable distance from the School. Day pupils enjoy all the advantages of a top boarding school with access to an exceptional broader curricular programme.

Year 7 Entry Requirements
As a guide, children entering at age 11 into Year 7 need to show evidence of academic potential, working towards the higher end of the ability range in both the Mathematics and English National Curriculum syllabuses (i.e. predicted more than 100 in the Key Stage 2 tests and ‘working above the expected standard’).
Our assessment process for a bursary place is in two stages. An Initial Assessment in October (just before October half-term) that uses computer based tests (verbal, quantitative, non-verbal and spatial reasoning).
Those children who are successful in the Initial Assessment will be invited to our Residential Assessment in January (just before term starts). The children stay overnight, have the opportunity to experience boarding life and take part in assessment tasks, the children are being assessed not only on their academic potential but also on their suitability to board.
Year 9 Entry Requirements
Admission in Year 9 is based on our own assessment process. As a guide, children entering at age 13 into Year 9 need to show evidence of academic potential, working towards the higher end of the ability range in both the Mathematics and English National Curriculum syllabuses.
Candidates for entry at age 13 into Year 9 who are coming from an independent prep school may choose to apply to be tested at age 11 and have their place deferred.
Year 12 Entry Requirements
All applicants should be on course to achieve a minimum of four level 7 grades and four level 6 grades at GCSE. Following our own assessment process, offers are made which are conditional on achieved performance at GCSE. We recommend candidates should achieve level 7 in the subjects most relevant to their subject choices at A level.
Additional Information
In all cases reports will be requested from a candidate’s current head teacher and it is recommended that parents contact their child’s current school early in the admissions process to ask about their child’s predicted grades.
Thank you for considering Christ’s Hospital for your Sixth Form education. Our over-riding aim is to ensure that our sixth form students realise their full potential, wherever their talents, interests and ambitions lie. We hope that they will leave CH as well-rounded, confident young men and women who are able to tackle life’s challenges positively and make valuable contributions to society.
Over 97% of pupils from Christ’s Hospital continue to higher education, either immediately after Year 13, out of the cohort of 96 pupils choosing to apply through UCAS, 82 were able to take up either their first choice or insurance offer.
Each year we invite prospective sixth form students to a taster day, when they can choose two subjects to ‘try out’, as well as meeting current students and have the opportunity of discovering all CH has to offer.
All applicants should be on course to achieve a minimum of 4 A (level 7 grades) and 4 B (level 6 grades). The A grades should be in the subjects they wish to study at A level.
For sixth form entry in September a completed application form needs to be with us by 23 October .
