The application process for the following academic year starts from the last Sunday in March of every academic year. During the school year, the Admissions Office working hours are as follows:

For fifteen academic years, YIS has been serving the community as an ideal site for teaching and learning for all students from Pre-K to Grade12. The school offers several services to ensure that each individual student is given the appropriate opportunity to grow in a safe and caring environment. Our challenging academic environment, co-curricular activities and the diversity in extracurricular activities allow students to discover and develop their talents to fulfill their potential.

Admissions Requirements

• A family interview with the completed Admission Application Form for all grade levels.
• A valid student’s iqama.
• Four recently taken passport size photos (one attached in the space up right).
• Copy of valid KSA national identification card for Saudi parents, or a valid residency card “Iqama” for non-Saudis.
• Copy of the student’s and parents’ valid passport for non-Saudis including the visa page with first entry to KSA.
• Report cards for the past two academic years (with official attestation if coming from outside KSA).
• Current (year to-date) report card with MoE approval to transfer.
• Confidential Reference letters /Recommendation letters from the previous school
  (applicants to Grades 4 – 12).
• A complete Medical Form with a photocopy of the vaccination card “Health file”.
• A certified copy of the student’s birth certificate.
• Ministry of Education (MoE) approval letter; coming from within or outside KSA.
• Official School Transfer Certificate.
• A non-refundable entrance test fee of SR 300 (PreK – Grade 3) & SR 500 (Grade 4 – Grade 12) upon review of the Admission Application Form.
• A non-refundable administrative application processing fee of SR 4,000 for all new students (is mandatory to reserve a seat).

All original documents should be available during submission for authentication. All original documents will be returned to parents after authentication.

General Information

Minimum requirements for acceptance at YIS is based upon

• Performance on the YIS entrance exam and the personal interview.
• Academic performance, behavior and information from former schools.
• The applicant fulfills all the requirements set by the Ministry of Education.

English Language Proficiency

English is the language of instruction throughout the school, and students must be able to function at an appropriate level in English for the academic work that is required.

Considerations

The school makes every effort to accept qualified students. This decision is subject to the academic entrance requirements, as well as enrollment and class size limitations determined by the school.The school reserves the right to limit student enrollment and reject an application if it does not align with school Admissions policy. ll young learners attending YIS must be fully toilet trained. In our efforts to uphold our child protection policies and to keep our learning environment clean and healthy, independent toilet training is a “non-negotiable” policy for all KG students. Passing YIS entrance exam does not guarantee a seat for new applicants. The entire registration process must be completed and the administrative application processing fee should be paid to ensure the acceptance and to reserve the seat (kindly check YIS fees structure and important dates that should be met once your children is/are accepted). Once the admission application process is entirely completed and the administrative application processing fee has been submitted, the applicant is accepted to YIS.

Admissions for Special Educational Needs

The school’s admission procedures are outlined in the school pamphlet; it is transparent that the school will not discriminate or disadvantage students with a disability or SEN. We have a fully functioning Autism Centre within our school and several qualified specialists working closely with our academic team, classroom teachers, parents and students.

In regards to SEN, we as a school identify the significance of early indication and diagnosis of students who require the support of our SEN team. We aim to ensure that strong procedures are in place to highlight students who are falling behind or those who are facing complications within any phase of their learning or social expansion at the earliest possible opportunity.

This process of early intervention is supported by:

• Reviewing the student’s existing abilities and achievement upon joining the school. We also take into consideration any information, health records or certificates from previous establishments or agencies; as this enables us to determine the student’s needs based on the individual. It also allows us to ensure the adequate monitoring of all students in regards to progress and attainment both academically and socially
• Apprehensions raised openly by the academic team, SEN specialists, parents and teachers, as well as the constant monitoring of the student’s progress in the core subject areas. Student development in other areas is also considered such as social growth, behavior and communication skills

In establishing whether or not a student may require SEN, the school will also pay attention to other influences which may be impeding the student’s achievement including;

• Attendance
• English as an additional language
• Family circumstances

As a school we recognize that attention to these elements will be predominantly significant when a student is exhibiting challenging behavior or becoming isolated and withdrawn. We also recognize that such comportments can frequently disguise an unmet need both academically and/or socially; in this instance additional assessments will be completed to outline any fundamental factors that may be affecting behavior which may not be SEN related. Before determining that a student requires additional support, the SEN specialist and class teacher will review current provisions to meet the student’s needs within their everyday teaching and learning; the school will consider any additional adjustments and adaptations that should be enforced in order to support the student’s development.

Students Requiring Additional SEN Support

Once it has been determined that a student requires additional SEN support, students will receive an enriched platform of support in order to reduce obstacles to their learning; as a school we implement this through applying a fully operational special educational program for the student. This is managed through stages of assessment, development, involvement and reviews; as outlined below:

Assessment: Once we have identified that a student requires SEN support, a more detailed assessment of the student’s requirements will be carried out. This includes consultations with parents and, when suitable, the student. We may also refer to evaluations, observations and reports from outside agencies that may have been involved with the student such as speech and language therapist, autism specialist including any additional health records. The team may also carry out further diagnostic assessments of the student’s needs in other areas of concern.
Each student’s ability is measured according to:

• Communication and interaction
• Reasoning and learning
• Social, emotional and mental health
• Sensory and/or corporeal needs

As a school, we recognize that the student’s requirements may change overtime, hence the importance of on-going evaluations. This extensive assessment system will give a thorough representation of each student’s strengths and their needs at that particular time.
