The admissions team is excited to partner with families as they consider their educational choices for their children. As we take you through our admissions process, we want you to know that our primary goal is to ensure your child’s success at CIS. Our admissions process looks at the character of a child academically and socially to make sure CIS is the right fit for her or him. We welcome diversity and hope families stay with us for their child’s entire academic journey.
For all grades, we require assessments for admission. These assessments vary based on grade level and may include observation times in class and/or sitting for admissions tests in English and Math. We also require the past two years’ report cards highlighting academic and personal growth for all applicants.
Early Years
To start early Years (age 3-5) at CIS, our early learners must be able to meet developmental and age-appopriate expectations like being able to eat and drink independently, be potty trained with no diapers, and other standards.
We take children whose primary language is English as well as non-native English speakers. For both, we ask for character reports and sample curriculum from daycare centers or kindergartens they have previously attended. All this helps in placing our young learners in age-appropriate grades.
For parents applying long distance, we require a signed confirmation that the Kindergarten Admissions Guidelines are met. Upon arrival, based on those admissions guidelines, and with the help of feedback from our teachers after 2 weeks in class, CIS reserves the right to ask the child to join later if she or he is deemed not ready for school.
Elementary and Middle School
For Grades 3-8, we require students to take a Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) test on the content they have recently covered. The MAP test in English and Math can be taken on-site at the CIS admissions office, or we can coordinate with the student’s current school to administer the MAP test on our behalf. In addition, students will also be required to submit a grade-level writing sample based on a prompt given by our academic team.
For long-distance applicants, we require that a teacher administers the student’s test at their current school. Parents are not allowed to proctor tests.
Our tests are based on past content your child has covered. The tests are evaluated in order to ensure correct grade placement and student fit at CIS. We do take into account that students come from different education systems when reviewing our applicants. CIS requires all applicants to the pay the Application Fee of $150 prior to the testing/assessment date. Our business office will send an invoice to you as soon as you confirm the testing/assessment date.
We also require the past two years’ report cards to assess a student’s academic history. Please send these along with your application.
High School
The IGCSE program is a two-year program that is a content-based curriculum. The curriculum is a great platform for our students to prepare for the two-year IB program in Grade 11 and 12. Please ask our admissions office for more information on the programs if you need to be versed in them.
For the IGCSE (Grades 9 and 10) & the IBDP, we require an English and Math test and the past two years’ report cards. Please note if reports do not show academic consistency and promise, CIS might offer a conditional acceptance based on the entry-level tests and the final school exam results.
Our applicants for the IB program work with our Admissions Office, College Guidance Counselor and IB coordinator to ensure that their course selection and course levels will help them with their chosen path after graduating from CIS.
CIS requires parents to pay the Application fee of $150 prior to the testing date. Our business office will send an invoice to you as soon as you confirm the test date.
