Admissions Process

Step 1. School Visit with Parent & Child & Assessment

School visits are essential prior to enrolment. Parents can view the school facilities and meet the Academic Heads and Student Care & Admissions team to better understand the programmes offered. It is also an opportunity for the Academic Heads to determine what is the most suitable age group/class placement for the child. Kindly note that parents are to bring their child along during the first visit. If the child is unable to attend, please inform the school.

Preschool – Students will be assessed on their PIES skills (Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Social).
Primary School – Students will be assessed on their academics with a focus on Phonics (English) and Numeracy. Students will also be evaluated on their readiness to learn (physical, mental and psychological readiness of the student).

Anne Hill International School reserves the right to request for documents from previous schools should we need more academic and developmental progress information.

EAL Support

At Anne Hill International School (AHI), our main language of teaching is English with the exception of 2nd Language classes. As our students come from diverse backgrounds, we acknowledge that there will be differentiated levels among English learners. As such, we provide English Additional Language (EAL) Support at the school. The purpose of this programme is to provide targeted help to students to develop literacy in English. The programme will give additional attention to the following areas:

• Speaking
• Listening & Comprehension of Spoken English
• Reading & Writing
• Learning through English

EAL is given to students to ensure that they can learn the language at a suitable pace, eventually leading to success in their learning. AHI is committed to cultivating a culture of lifelong learning, and this translates to equipping our students with language acquisition skills so that they can confidently participate in every class at the school.

Determining Level of EAL Support

Students from age 5 and above who need the support will be identified during the assessment stage of the Admissions process. Following this, The Oxford Young Learners Placement Test is used to determine the current level of each child. This is an on-demand, computer-adaptive test of the English language for non-native speakers of English, reporting at Pre-A1, A1, A2 and B1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The test was developed by Oxford University Press to provide schools with a baseline score and to place English language students on the most appropriate course.For students below 5 years old, EAL is not required upon enrolment; however, the child will be assessed during Kindergarten 1. This is to determine whether EAL support is compulsory to prepare them for primary school learning.

Step 2. Age Group & Class Placement

At Anne Hill International School, we offer preschool for children ages 18 months – 5 years old and primary school for children ages 5 years old – 10 years old. Kindly refer to the general age group table below for more information on the class placement of your child. However, please note that depending on the academic and personal development of your child, this may be subject to change:

Class Placement

At Anne Hill International School, students are typically placed in year groups according to their date of birth. As such, we look at a child’s age on 31st August to determine which class they qualify for. Students entering Year 1 must have turned 5 by 31st August, whereas students entering Year 2 must have turned 6 by 31st August, and so on. Kindly refer to the tables below for more information.

Please note, however, that the School can only confirm the offer a place once it has been determined that the student’s educational needs can be met by the school and its programmes. As such, a range of other factors are also taken into account. These include a child’s current academic level, English language proficiency, social and emotional development, and any other relevant factors.

Class Placement Assessments:

• Children under 5 years old – Where possible, we encourage children to attend 3 ‘trial days’ in the relevant class from 8:00am to 12:00 midday.
• Children aged 5-6 years old will meet with the Head of Primary and undertake a phonics and maths assessment. Other assessments or trial days may be required at the School’s discretion. School reports for the last 2 academic years will also be requested.
• Children from 6 to 10 years old will meet the Head of Primary for an informal interview and complete a standardised Maths test. Children with English as an additional Language will also take an online English Language Use and Listening test, whereas children with English as a first language will complete a standardised reading test. Other assessments or trial days may be required at the School’s discretion. School reports for the last 2 academic years will also be requested.

To ensure that the child can adjust to Anne Hill school environment, all children must be present during school visit. The enrolment of the child will depend on the following:

• Participation in school interview and assessment. If your child is unable to visit the school in the first appointment. Please kindly arrange another visit with the school prior enrolment
• Availability of class
• All relevant documents submitted to the school
• Payment of school fees

Step 3. Class Availability

After determining a suitable class placement, the Admissions & Student Care team will check the availability of the class.

Available – This means that there is an available spot in the grade of the child’s class.
Waiting List – This means that the grade of the child’s class is currently full. The Admissions & Student Care team will contact parents immediately should a spot open up. The waiting time will depend on the size of the waiting list.

Step 4. Student Registration

Registration Link – All registrations will be done on the STAR Portal. Parents will be sent a link to upload and submit the following information:

• Child’s Information (Passport, ID, immunisation record, vaccination report,mandatory fit-for-school health check and medical requirement form, prior school reports and proof of enrolment)
• Parents and guardians’ information (Passport, ID, email, phone, relationship to child)
• Bus registration, After School Co-Curricular Activities and/or After School Care (Optional)
• Required medical reports including learning support (if applicable)
• Authorisation and consent – Parents will need to sign a digital acknowledgement for various school policies including OTC medicine to be administered at school, photo taking and transportation. These are important policies and guidelines regarding students’ safeguarding.

Anne Hill International School reserves the right the request for documents from previous schools regarding academic and development progress of your child. This together with the assessment’s result will best reflect the most suitable class placement at AHI.

*It is mandatory to upload all relevant files and information to begin the enrolment process.

Step 5. Enrolment Offer & Payment of Fees

A letter of enrolment will be sent to parents via email. Parents will need to write back to the school and confirm that they would like to enrol their child.

For certain cases, students may not be offered enrolment after registration is completed. This is done after careful assessment of the uploaded academic and behaviour record or when AHI lacks the programme/facility to support their educational needs, health and/or daily school life.

Step 6. Enrolment Confirmation

Enrolment is ONLY confirmed upon Payment of Registration Fee & Tuition Fees.

An invoice outlining the registration fee, tuition fees and other optional fees e.g. bus, After School Co-curricular (CCAs) will be sent upon the reply from parents that they would like to enrol their child. Payment will need to be made before the due date shown in the Schedule of Fee.

Step 7. Preparation for School

To prepare your child for school, please ensure that the following are done:

• Collect school uniform
• Set up Seesaw app and link with the class
• Connect to class representative
• Connect with class teacher and to receive class schedule from the teacher
• Read the Parent-Student Handbook carefully to obtain the list of essential items required to bring to school

Step 8. Start Date

Upon completion of the above steps, the student may start school on the date specified in the letter of enrolment. The start date may be delayed if enrolment steps stated above are not completed in time.
