Eligibility Criteria

The UWC Student Joint Selection Committee of China (“China Selection Committee”, or “JSC”) is responsible for the selection of students from China to all the UWC schools in the world, including UWC Changshu China. The JSC selects students based on global UWC standards and practices.

Students who satisfy the following criteria are eligible to apply through the JSC:

Citizenship and residency

  • All Chinese citizens of the mainland of China residing anywhere in the world
  • Non Chinese mainland citizens residing in the mainland of China
  • Non Chinese mainland citizens residing outside mainland of China who are ineligible to apply to UWC through their local UWC selection process.

Years of formal education received

  • Students applying to the Foundation Programme (Grade 10) should be in at least Grade 9 or 10 at the time of application.
  • Students applying to the IB Diploma Programme (Grade 11) should be in at least Grade 10 or 11 at the time of application.

Age

  • Students applying to the Foundation Programme (Grade 10) should be between the ages of 15 and 18 in August.
  • Students applying to the IB Diploma Programme (Grade 11) should be between the ages of 16 and 18 in August.

Application Process

Step 1: Research the school and UWC movement

Step 2: Choose FP vs IBDP

The Foundation Programme is offered to provide the essential building blocks required for successful entry into the IB Diploma Programme. Students who are to apply for FP Programme should be in Grade 9 or 10 when applying.

The IBDP Programme is made up of the IB Core as well as six subject groups. The Core requirements help contribute to the unique nature of the IBDP.Students who are to apply for IBDP Programme should be in Grade 10 or 11 when applying.

Step 3: Choose EA vs RA

Each applicant should choose one of the two different application streams to apply: Early Admission (EA) or Regular Admission (RA).

Step 4: Apply online

  • Create an account
  • Complete the online application form
  • Upload or download key documents
  • Wait for outcomes

Key documents:

  • Upload a scanned copy of the applicant's ID or passport
  • Upload a scanned copy of a recent 2-inch photograph
  • Upload a scanned copy of the school transcript
  • Download the Signature Page, sign, and upload
  • Pay the 500 CNY Application Fee

Note:

At the time of application a copy of your school transcript is still required, but an official transcript will not be required until a student enters the enrollment stage (summer before attendance). Applicants must provide photocopy, electronic copy, or other forms of the transcript for online application and Selection Day. For admitted students, official transcripts are required prior to enrollment at UWC;

Step 5: Attend the National Selection Day

No matter what the application results are, all applicants will be notified by email within four weeks of the application deadline. If you receive a Selection Day invitation, details of the Selection Day process will be explained in the invitation letter.

Step 6: Confirm Selection Result

No matter what the selection results are, all applicants who have attended the Selection Day will be notified of a final admission decision by email within 6-10 weeks of the Selection Day.
