At Lawdale Junior School, we aim to provide a calm, safe and supportive environment for your child to learn and develop. The school provides a range of learning opportunities for all pupils, to help them achieve and grow into independent, responsible and caring people. We teach all the subjects in the National Curriculum and provide children with many more learning opportunities in class, in clubs, at lunchtimes and after school.
We have a fantastic team who work incredibly hard to ensure your child receives the best education possible. The staff believe that we can achieve the best for your child with close co-operation between home and school. There will be opportunities to share in your child’s education throughout your child's time at Lawdale and we are always willing to talk with you about aspects of your child’s education.
Our vision is to create a learning community built on respect. One where everyone has the opportunity to achieve success in a rights respecting environment.
The school is situated near Bethnal Green Toy Museum, Bethnal Green Market, Columbia Road flower market, Brick Lane and the famous York Hall. Bethnal Green Tube Station and Victoria Park are within walking distance. The school takes pupils from 7yrs to 11yrs and has an intake of 60 pupils per year from September 2020. About
85% of our pupils come from families where English is spoken as a second language at home. The most common languages spoken are English and Sylheti. A few pupils speak other languages, such as Gujerati, Punjabi, Urdu, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Afro- Caribbean languages.
Lawdale Junior School is housed in a typical Victorian building and was built in 1883 by the London School Board. At that time, it was called the Mansford Street School. In 1904 the school was taken over by London County Council and was renamed Lawrence School after the then Viceroy of India, Lord Lawrence. In 1933 it was re-organised as a junior boy’s school, but in 1975 it was amalgamated with Teesdale Junior Girls School to become the present Lawdale mixed Junior School.
